This pot is PERFECT for making homemade pasta for a moderate to large sized crowd.
The heavy base and large capacity means when you plunge in a plate of still-moist homemade spagetti, the water keeps boiling, or returns to a full boil within a minute or so. Ours has stayed beautiful in our active kitchen for over a year despite constant use and frequent washing. This is my favorite large kettle. I can think of NOTHING wrong with this pot. Update: 4/2005 (a year later) - This is STILL the perfect pot for cooking large batches of pasta and two-chicken soups. Update 5/2008 (4 years later) - Still looks as good as new, and works just as well. We've given them as gifts, and they are always appreciated!

Okay, I'll admit that I'm a bit biased towards Farberware in the first place, but with this pot they've done just about everything right. The aluminum slug sealed into the base makes for very even heating, which is important since it's wider than most burners. And it holds up to high heat well - I've been browning meat and making roux in mine for a few years now. The lid is snug enough without being a pain and the loop handles are nice - the smaller Classic series stock pots have the molded plastic ones instead. The only thing I'd change in the design of the pot is to use a brushed finish - I tend to prefer that over chrome because any chrome pot that I use very often ends up with a patina of scratches anyway, and I prefer that they all run in the same direction. But who's complaining? This pot performs where it counts - it heats quickly and evenly and has taken quite a beating over the years without so much as a ding.

We bought both the 12 and 16 quart pots. We couldn't be happier. We have a large family and these sizes are great for pasta, sauce, corn, chili, BBQ...you name it. They are very sturdy, and the bottom is perfectly flat...something we need because we have a ceramic cooktop. They heat evenly and food doesn't stick. We were looking at pots that cost considerably more, but I'm glad we make the choice we did.

great pot for the kitchen. you can cook a lot with out running out of room. the very heavy bottom spreads the heat so you can sear the meat and then make the chili in the same pot. use it for pasta and don't worry about boil overs. love it

Four gallons of chili, mhm...,

This is a huge pot. It may look small in the picture, but it's 4 gallons, so it'll fit a lot of food. It'd be great for lobsters, I suppose, but if you are not inclined as to boil live animals, this pot is great for stews, soups, and chili. It's really big, but it has an extra thick bottom that distributes heat evenly, so no spot gets heated more than another making for good stews. Left on very low heat, it can pretend to be a slow cooker. Also, it's made of stainless steel and no food sticks to its sides or bottom. I have been using it constantly since I got it and I highly recommend it. I got it on sale I'm really happy with it.

I must have spent a week reading various reviews of stock pots before selecting this pot. I noticed that the majority of less-than-positive reviews of this pot(and others) seemed to be by folks who were disappointed that the pot was not something other than what it claimed to be. At the same time that I was deciding on this pot my wife bought me 3 All Clad sauce pans. This pot is not the same construction or quality as a top-of-the-line All Clad pot. It is also not $450. For the price I can't imagine being able to beat the quality of this pot. The first time I used it I found that I had to adjust the burner about 1/3 lower than with my old pots. Although we are fortunate enough to be on natural gas instead of propane like most of our neighbors, I believe that for anyone who cooks stews and soups frequently, the savings in propane alone will pay for this pot in a year. If you can spend over $400 on a stock pot don't hesitate to buy All Clad. If you want an excellent pot (that, yes, will not work on an induction range but they make that clear so pay attention) for a fraction of that price I don't think you can do better than this Farberware pot.

My daughter purchased one of these for canning tomato sauce, and was so pleased with it she bought one for me. I was so happy with it I bought a second one. VERY heavy base, nothing seems to scortch no matter how high I cook. No rivets for the handles so the entire inside is smooth and easy to clean. I don't think you could find a better buy.

Farberware 18/10 stainless steel cookware is a good line. I had this cookware at one time, and I can recommend it, especially for use on gas burners. Unlike Calphalon cookware, it can go in the dishwasher. However, to keep the finish gleaming, you might need to scrub the pots and pans frequently with cleanser and scouring pads. This 16-Quart Saucepan is a kitchen essential for anyone who cooks for a large group.
