5.0 out of 5 stars Great product for great price
I love to drink hot tea and I agree with everyone else - why spend a lot of $ on something that boils water! This teakettle works great and my handle, lid, and spout cover DO NOT get hot - I can remove any of these with my bare hands.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great price but not worth getting 'burned' over....
After reading all the great reviews I figured the item could not be that bad. I received one today (Paid $10.20 for it) and when they went on sale the other day I bought a few more as gifts hoping they were good items. When I received mine today I was very impressed with the design and thought it looked `perfect'. Very pleased with the look, I do not think it is cheaply...

After reading all the great reviews I figured the item could not be that bad. I received one today (Paid $10.20 for it) and when they went on sale the other day I bought a few more as gifts hoping they were good items. When I received mine today I was very impressed with the design and thought it looked `perfect'. Very pleased with the look, I do not think it is cheaply made at all. But when it was put to the test I was surprised at the performance. I was making some hot water for some tea since it is so cold outside. I am so glad I stood there and watched the kettle warm up. As it was boiling the water it was coming straight out of the inside of the handle on the side! Dripping all over the burning and making the `his' sound and would not stop! Also, the whistle part did not work and the steam was getting the plastic really hot! The handle was not hot though. It looks great but functions very poorly. Had I not been standing there this could have flickered off and burned one of the pets on the floor since it was flickering boiling water or even hurt myself when I walked in. I would not recommend this product.

2.0 out of 5 stars looks good -- works poor, January 2, 2005

If you barely use a tea kettle and want one for a good price then maybe this is a good buy. Yes, it does look very nice and yes it is a very good price BUT.. the handle (like others have said) gets VERY hot and you can not pick it up without a potholder. The bell piece isn't attached to the kettle itself, so you need to take it off to pour - very likely to get misplaced too. But really though, the bell does not work and the there is absolutely no whisle at all. I went to answer the phone one day and the thing nearly evaporated all the water in it without a sound. I rather have something that is better made.

1.0 out of 5 stars safety risks with kettle handle, January 19, 2006

Unlike other reviewers I liked the removable whistle maker on the spout--just remove it before you pick up the kettle handle. However, what troubled me was the continual loosening of the screws in the handle--one day I picked up the kettle and the handle started to come off the pot because the screw was loose!!! No matter how tightely we screwed the handle back on nor how many times we did so, it always started loosening itself immediately. Despite how much I liked the pot I had to throw it away.

The tea kettle is inexpensive, but I'd spend more to get a tea kettle that whistles and also has a top that flips open from the handle instead of one where you have to manually pop it off. In addition, the handle gets hot, and you need an oven mitt to hold it.

1.0 out of 5 stars I shouldn't have ignored the bad review..., August 26, 2005

I ignored the negative reviews, and ordered this item anyway, because I really liked the "style" of it, and badly needed a new kettle. When it arrived, I was pleased at the style, the balance, and performance... until water started leaking out from the bottom every time I filled it up. Not just from one weak area, but from the entire bottom portion, it would drip discolored, rusty looking water after boiling, if left standing with water in the kettle.

Very disappointed, and worse, now I have to try and find yet another kettle that I like. It isn't worth the shipping cost to return this item, but I'm definately unhappy with the performance and would never recommend this item.

I wish the whistle was a little more robust; it's a lot softer than my other, broken kettle. Also, the handle and pull spigot thingy tend to get hot, so be careful when you pour your hot water. Finally, the handle is not rounded (as the picture would imply), but squared off on the edges. (Think of bending a plank to fit the handle rather than a bent pipe.)

Overall, though, it's shiny, pretty, and perfect for one person.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little kettle!, January 16, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this kettle a couple of years ago and just now noticed it doesn't have any reviews! Well, it should! This kettle is very functional and has kept up well. It whistles nicely and has great capacity, it's not too small nor too big, very well suitable for a small household.

3.0 out of 5 stars Handle gets too hot, January 26, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Farberware Classic 1-1/2 Quart Sausalito Stainless Steel Teakettle (Kitchen)
It's cute and cheap. So, of course, you get what you pay for. The handle does get extremely HOT and will burn your hand if you don't use a hotpad. That's a pretty big downside, if you ask me.

It starts to leak after 3 weeks!!! For less price, you can buy one from Wal-Mart with better quality.
