The versatile array of knives in this 11-piece set equips a cook with essential blades for both the kitchen and the dining room. Stamped from high-carbon stainless steel, the knives are an 8-inch chef's knife for rocking through chopping tasks, an 8-inch slicing knife for carving roasts and poultry, a 5-inch boning/utility knife with a stiff blade, a 3-inch paring knife, and four 4-1/2-inch steak knives for when meat is on the table. Rugged synthetic handles are attached to full tangs with three stainless-steel rivets for traditional style. Accompanying the knives are a 9-inch sharpening steel to keep edges aligned and an 8-inch pair of kitchen shears with a bottle opener between the handles. All pieces fit in an oval hardwood storage block slanted for easy access, with the steak knives stored in a lower tier on the block's front. These are probably one of the best "budget" knives around. The handles are synthetic so they're dishwasher-safe. There is no need for handwashing like expensive knives. The blades are strong, hold an edge well and has nice weight and balance for something so inexpensive. These are terrific for everyday, heavy use. A set you can abuse without guilt or worry. The "Farberware Professional" logo tends to wash off in the dishwasher.
