My boys bought this set for me from Kohls. It's already showing rust stains, and just doesn't cut that well. It's frustrating, because the set "looks" beautiful, but it just doesn't deliver. Unfortunately I threw away the box and receipt, so probably don't have any hope of returning them. As a last ditch effort, I probably will see if they work any better if I can get them sharpened, but since they are all serrated, I doubt it. I wouldn't buy one if I were you!

Horrible knife set, not for anybody that actually uses knifes for preparing food. All the knifes are serrated so they tear up tomatoes, etc. Not sharp, not sure what they are good for , perhaps sawing through very tough cuts of meat? Cannot chop or mince with these. Farberware should hang their head for this product no matter how cheap!

If there was something else than one star I would have picked it! Got these to give to my husband less than six months ago and they are a piece of crap. The handles are hollow and water gets trapped. They are rusting and about as dull as a butter knife. We have sharpened them, scrubbed them by hand and the rust is still there. What a waste of money! They are on their way to Goodwill as soon as I get something else.

There is nothing in the write up that indicates these knives are either one or two piece construction. They are two piece - the knife handle and the blade are separate, connected by a black plastic interface.

I have had two knives break in the middle (one the bread knife and the other used to cut veggies). When the plastic connector between blade breaks, the blade will collapse onto your hand/fingers - essentially jack-knifing.

This is not only an inferior product design, but a dangerous product design. And just to be clear, I broke the last knife will cutting a tab of butter from the refrigerator - not frozen, just refrigerated. So the pressure was minimal.

The knives were washed in the dishwasher, but then we didn't call a family meeting to advise everyone the knives were not dishwasher safe.

So, be wary of this product. We have switched to solid knife - blade & handle all one piece and they are much better than these Farberware "stamped" knives.

I have the misfortune of having bought these 4 years ago with the intention of eventually buying some decent knives(at target), these were one of those purchases where I was just out of college and I wanted something to hold me over until I could get something nice. I bought them because the handles are really nice looking, and they weren't 50 bucks when I bought them. When I first got them they were fairly sharp, but nowhere near my Victorinox and Mundial knives. Since I've had them I've broken several of the steak knives and one of the paring knives. I've always been extremely careful not to allow them in the dish washer, I've never left them in the sink, and yet within 6 months they had rust stains (I had to use steel wool every few months to remove the stains). On the plus side if you use a Lansky sharpener on these knives you can put a razor edge on them, on the negative side that edge will last you all of 2 weeks.

I've started replacing them with commercial kitchen knives, I'm working on accumulating a Mundial 5600 series set which are wonderful knives... If you want cheap knives, don't buy farberware, buy commercial knives. You can get a real bargain on knives that don't look pretty but are still high quality forged blades (unlike these stamped knives). I paid $15 for my 8" chef's knife, $15 for a Santoku, $8 for a paring knife, and $10 for a serrated slicing knife... So for the price of this set you can have 4 extremely high quality knives that will do almost everything you need in the kitchen.

If you're thinking about buying these, just don't.

I rarely write a bad review, but this product was a very big disappointment! It was a Christmas gift from my husband. I cook a BUNCH so my old set was in pretty bad shape. I was excited over the clean look and feel of the knives... however, they are already rusted, becomming dull and no longer do their job (less than 2 months after opening them). I wash and dry them by hand and sharpen before use, but it makes no difference.

Save up. Buy a better set. This one will just be a waste of $60 bucks.

We still have this set, minus the block and some of the cheap side tools. The knives are loose and wobbly in the tangs, as they are not the full length of the tang. I have been to lazy and cheap to replace them, so we will have them until they fall apart completely. Some of the smaller knives are still sturdy-ish, but I'd say about 75% of them are loose. I do use them A LOT so keep that in mind.

I was cutting a brown onion and the large 8" blade of my 3 month old Farberware knife snapped from the handle and spun in the air in front of my face missing me by 2-3 inches. I have never had that happen with any other brand knife. Farberware knives are dangerous! I have the photo but the phone app would not let me upload.
