5.0 out of 5 stars This book got me motivated again! January 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Don't judge this book by it's cartoony cover....it really is a gem! After reading Gary Taubes' book "Why We Get Fat" last August I was profoundly affected and convinced by the solid science presented in it to go low-carb. I've been doing great and lost 34 pounds by December, but started losing my momentum. Let's just say that the honeymoon was over. But, still being committed to this way of losing weight, and seeing how I still have about another 50 lbs. to go, I went looking for inspiration. If I hadn't seen Jimmy Moore's review for this book, I probably wouldn't have gotten it, because I thought that the cover was a little rinky-dinky, and I'm a little leery of too many 5-star reviews (having been burned before buying a few "stinkers" based on their glowing reviews). So I gritted my teeth and ordered this on my Kindle....and am I GLAD I did! This book reminded me of the science that convinced me to do this in the 1st place, and in an interesting and non-boring way. This will be a keeper on my Kindle and I'll be glad to quickly read it again every time my enthusiasm for giving up refined carbs wanes. I've highlighted important (to me) passages in every single chapter. I highly recommend this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Get Off The Sugar And Get Your Life Back! November 18, 2011
Format:Paperback
Full disclosure: I wrote the foreword to this amazing book from author Jill Escher. Although I've never met her in person, I was attracted to her passion and enthusiasm for sharing about the problem of sugar addiction which once had me in its grasp so strongly I weighed in at over 400 pounds and was on an early road to a premature death. Learn more about my story in the foreword, but by all means GET THIS BOOK! It will change your life forever.

Jill does a brilliant job of sharing why so many people struggle with obesity, why conventional wisdom on diet has actually made obesity and health worse not better, what people should be eating for optimal health and weight management, getting through the challenges of making a genuine lifestyle change, and reaping the benefits of the changes you so bravely incorporate into your new life. The book is written in an incredibly practical manner so you can begin applying the principles you learn right away and understand why you're doing it. Everyone dealing with obesity, diabetes, sugar addiction, and just about any other chronic health issue could stand to benefit from Jill's book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Isn't this just another book on a low carb diet? August 27, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I must admit I am confused. From reading the reviews, I thought this book would have some clever advice on how to get over the sugar obsession. I am half way through the book, and it seems to be a rehash of the Atkins-type diet. The author lost weight from going low carb. We are all supposed to go low carb according to her advice. Give up bread, sweets, ice cream, and even some grains that we all thought were good for us. Maybe this is good advice to lose weight, but this is not a simple task to accomplish. If I could have done that easily enough I would never have to think about losing weight. The author writes these lessons as if they are easy, and not a problem for people who love food. Give up so much of the "good stuff" and you'll lose weight. Right, I know.
I wanted advice on how to break the addiction to sugar. Advising me not to eat bread or ice cream is not the same as telling me what things I can do to make it easier to go easier on bread or ice cream.
I just do not see how this is different from so many other books telling you to eat butter, but not butter with toast.
I'll finish the book to see if I've missed something, but I'm thinking I haven't if I am already half way through.
