Another Hilarious Addition to the 'Chet Gecko' Series,
By
This review is from: Farewell, My Lunchbag: A Chet Gecko Mystery (Paperback)
It is a known fact that Chet Gecko, fourth-grade private eye, loves anything having to do with food. Especially if it involves eating it. So Chet nearly loses his mind when the lunch lady, Mrs. Bagoong, informs Chet that there is a food thief plaguing Emerson Hicky Elementary, and she needs Chet's help to catch him/her. Mrs. Bagoong gives Chet and his mockingbird sidekick, Natalie, a muffin each as a down payment, and soon the two of them are on the case. However, this case may have been a bit much for Chet, for now he's been framed for the crime, and is facing a life of detention if he doesn't catch the thief. And quick.
It is amazing that Bruce Hale's writing gets better in every CHET GECKO MYSTERY. The fabulous jokes are enough to keep any reader, whether they are 5 or 15, laughing out loud; while the strange situations and scenarios that Chet gets into regularly are too wacky for words. FAREWELL, MY LUNCHBAG is a fabulous addition to the series, that cannot be missed. Erika Sorocco Book Review Columnist for The Community Bugle Newspaper

This is a wonderful mystery. It is also funny. I recommend it to mystery and/or commedy lovers. It has many good lines that will keep you laughing for hours. When I read I couldn't put it down. The suspence is a killer. I think the author did a great job writing this book. I really think people should read it. It is excellent!

The main characters of this story are chet gecko and natalie. They are detectives at a school. They are on a case to find who the food theif is. Chet gets knocked out while guarding the school's lunch supply and is framed. He knows hes innocent and is looking for the theif. Natalie thinks he might be on to something. They go and search and chet finds out that the snake is behind all this. He trys to tell the principle and he says "Show me proof" so chet goes and finds the theif and calms him with a flute. This takes place at chet's school. The meaning of this story is that you should not try to be innocent and admit what you've done. I liked this story because it is a mystery and you never know whats going to happen next. It seems like you know everything at first but you are able to find out what happens. Thats my ending so bye.

The Small Hints of Chet Gecko and Farewell My Lunchbag,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Farewell, My Lunchbag: A Chet Gecko Mystery (Hardcover)
This is a really good book to read for ages 8-12. There are a lot of interesting things you get to learn in the book, cool characters, and also funny sentences. Also, I think this book is great because once it gets very interesting it doesnt let you put the book down. You just want to read it until the end and then more Bruce Hale books of Chet Gecko!

There are some really fine first-chapter-book series out there. I'm thinking Daniel Pinkwater's Werewolf Club books, or Jon Scieszka's Time Warp Trio. Everything doesn't have to be fart/poop/booger or my-little-pony.
These Chet Gecko mysteries are a worthy addition, although a little more advanced than very first chapter books. The stories are longer and more complicated, and the humor is a bit more sophisticated. The voice, though, is fresh and age appropriate, and the humor is broad enough to offer something to every reader. The snappy detective patter probably isn't for everyone and the actual mysteries are pretty lame, but this is certainly a good choice to try if your reader is at all adventurous. Unlike some series, the order of the books doesn't matter very much and it seems like you could start with any one of the volumes.

If you've read any of the Chet Gecko series, then you know what to expect, and you won't be sorry with this one.
The Plot: It seems that Chet and his partner must solve a case that deals with someone, or something stealing food from the lunchroom. As the story unfolds, soon people start pointing fingers at Chet for the thief who's stealing food. So he has to clear his name, find the thief and finish a huge report for school. All of this must be done, while making sure that girls don't give him cooties. This series is so funny, I actually found myself laughing out loud at what Chet was doing and what he was up to. The Author has a fantastic writing style. The style is set up as if we're watching an old time detective move. The writing is crisp, quick and refreshing. The author does something a lot of children's authors don't do, and that's keeping the ages of his readers in mind. It's right on their level, and will keep adults engaged. I tell my students about this series. If you want your kids to read, then this is a great series to start with. I love it and can't wait to read more of them to see what Chet is up to. If your kids start this series, I can promise they'll be hooked. This is laugh out loud funny.

Wow that book is really amazing! if you havent read it you really should. the reason I like thie book is you think it is one thing but then the theif turns out to be someone u dont really suspect. For example (I am not going to use what the book said because I dont want to give any thing away, to new readers) as I was saying say that before Chet gets knocked out he thinks he saw a (example) slug. but then he hears about something else sneaking around the school a Snail. then the theif turs out to be the snail (example). I really enjoy the book, like I do with other books, that have other books connectied to it.If the author reads this I hope that you see my point for this book. Thank you I hade a pleasure reading it.
