Book Description

Dushau Trilogy No 2 September 1985
With Imperial Troops in hot pursuit, "Lady" Zavaronne, with her now trusted Dushau friend Jindigar and his friends of many species, crashes on a colonizable planet which the Dushau have kept secret from the Empire, against all Laws. She has forgiven Jindigar that lie, but now she finds he has lied to her again. The planet has intelligent natives, and is therefore embargoed.

They can't survive here unless she joins Jindigar's Dushau exploration team in a psychic bond so they can blend into the local ecology.

They must convince the Natives to hide them from the Imperial troops chasing them. As they take refuge with a Hive Dwelling native, Zavaronne must peel away the Dushau's lies, half-truths, and hidden agenda so she can decide if she can trust Jindigar before the Imperial troops find them. Should she switch sides - again?

More About the Author

I'm a professional sf/f writer, and a Life Member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, Inc. (sfwa.org) I'm also a member of EPIC, The Electronic Publishing Industry Coalition, and Backlist eBooks, a group of widely published writers presenting their own previously published work in eBook format.

My first novel, House of Zeor, first of the Sime~Gen novels, was published in hc in 1974 and remained continually in print for 20 years.

Today the series has been picked up by Wildside Press, Borgo imprint, re-issued as both e-book in a wide variety of formats including Kindle, and as Print on Demand. In addition brand new, never before published novels are included, and all are presented numbered in publication order.

Like Star Trek fandom, Sime~Gen fandom has produced more fanfiction than ever was professionally published -- and RPG's and LARPS and board games, and hand-crafts, and art, and poetry - and even a professionally written and recorded song.

My works in other universes are likewise coming in new formats, and brand new novels will be added through Wildside Press.

Watch for audiobook versions via audible.com which will appear here on Amazon. The first of my novels to be recorded as an audiobook is Molt Brother, which has a direct sequel City of a Million Legends. Both those are newly available as e-books on Kindle and other formats, as well as in paper.

A vampire-romance, Those of My Blood and its sequel Dreamspy are available in paper again, at regular not collector's prices, right here on Amazon.

After selling several Sime~Gen novels to hardcover, I was joined by Jean Lorrah (author of many Trek novels, as well as her own series of fantasy novels, Savage Empire). Jean's first novel was our Sime~Gen collaboration titled First Channel. We are now co-owners of Sime~Gen Inc. which owns simegen.com

I'm the originator of the term Intimate Adventure, quoted in Publisher's Weekly. All my novels belong to the Intimate Adventure genre, as do those of Jean Lorrah.

I am the sf/f book reviewer for The Monthly Aspectarian and my column is archived on simegen.com/reviews/. There you'll find a link to an article showing the Star Trek Connection behind everything to do with Sime~Gen and simegen.com.

The first two columns have an in-depth definition of Intimate Adventure with examples by many authors across many fields. Intimate Adventure is the Hidden Genre -- everyone loves it, nobody (especially publishers) knows it exists.

You'll find links to all my online projects on my personal page, simegen.com/jl/ or select information about currently available novels on jacquelinelichtenberg.com

This review is from: Farfetch (Dushau Trilogy No 2) (Paperback)
Farfetch is the second novel in Lichtenberg's excellent Dushau series. (For those who have not read the previous novel), this continues the adventures of Krinata, a 33 year old human researcher of noble blood, who in the first book assisted Jindigar, an alien outcast, to escape the clutches of the an evil and corrupt Imperial regime. (Is there any other kind?)

This time, however, Jindigar and friends have crash-landed on a planet filled with 'hive mentality' aliens, in the process losing most of their equipment and suffering several severe casualties, including the loss of their sentient computer, Arlai. Do the refugees have what it takes to survive in a hostile alien world?

I liked Farfetch a great deal. Jingdigar is such a smart (not to mention handsome) and compelling character, one cannot help but fall in love with him! LOL Krinata is a believable human, 'caught up' in current events.

Unlike the first novel, this novel DOES became confusing and unclear in certain sections, especially when 'psychic' phenomenon is being explained or discussed. Many times I felt /I/ was the one hallucinating as I was trying to interpret one of Krinata's complex dream-experiences! Which got tiresome after a while. Also, At times I grew frustrated with the Dushau for their standoffish-ness and their callousness towards other species, (even if it is explained in the first book that they are hesitant to get involved with short-lived species because they become too attached to them, and grieve for them when they die... Sort of like Immortal Tolkien-esque elves do). And then of course there is the Krinata/Jindigar subtextual relationship are they a couple or aren't they!!!! We haven't had such a mystery since Xena and Gabrielle! Frustrating, but in an fun way! =-)

Of course, this novel is great! I wouldn't complain if it weren't! I really liked Storm and the rest of his family. He is such an interesting character. I also was sad about Arlai, and some of the other suffering colonist. This is a fantastic work of art, and can't wait to read the third and last Lichtenberg novel 'Outreach.'

Viva-la-Lichtenberg!

It still stands out among the many books I've read (2 - 6 a week) in 48 years of avid reading. I'm so happy to see it here because I lost two of the books in this trilogy. I'm so pleased I can now replace at least one. I'm one who rarely reads a book twice but there are some very special ones that I have read more than once and will read again. This is definitely one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great science Fiction, great action, August 30, 2011
The world created by the author is extraordinary, yet believable. I strongly recommend that you read the first book (Dushau) first, as this world is so intricate that I fear you might get confused without all the background information. Again, the descriptions, the world building, the action, the ideas are first class science fiction. I particularly enjoyed the concept of the artificial intelligence entity. As for the hero and the heroine, my only regret is that they do not seem to get on the right path to romance. But I'll keep hoping for it while reading book three (Outreach). In any case, I'm hooked.
