I saw this book reviewed on a blog and instantly fell in love with the "comb styles" page featured. So I wanted to take a better look at the book to see if it was something that could be gifted this coming holiday season and was not disappointed. The illustrations were well done and the whole book was full of color. The biggest surprise was how my autistic 5-year-old son LOVED it! We laid in bed for an hour talking about the different parts of a farm, the plants and the animals. We did some counting, explored how a plant has roots and where chicken nuggets come from. I don't have coffee table books but this might make its way there to be enjoyed by the whole family.

I cannot stop showing everyone I know this book. First of all, it's gorgeous--each and every page has beautiful hand-drawn type and the most adorable illustrations I have ever seen. It's as though this book was made just for me. Yes, I dream of having a small farm with chickens, 2 pigs, 2 goats, and 2 miniature horses--but I'm actually going to have this one day soon. Husband and I are going to move away and buy a small farm and make that dream a reality - and this book is like my guide and my inspiration. Everything in it makes me smile--the varieties of barn cupolas, chicken comb styles, tractors--everything. Thank you Storey Publishing - you guys make awesome books! And thank you Julia Rothman!

possibly my favorite book in my collection - i'm a huge fan of julia rothman but anyone interested in the subject or who daydreams about the farm life (like me) with certainly enjoy this. full of (basic but interesting) information and the loveliest illustrations, this book is so, so charming - a must-have for every collection

I received this as a gift and found it utterly charming and even informative. It's appropriate and interesting for all ages. I read half of it in one sitting, and plan on utilizing some of its information about gardens (potato box, bean trellis) and chickens (coop style). Made me want to go back to the farm life!

Ordered this book as a Christmas present for my Aunt. Was so impressed by the content and the illustrations that I had to order a couple more! Who knew there was more than one kind of chicken coop in this world? Awesomeness.

The layout, colors, presentations are like Grandma's comforts to a small child learning about the world. The illustrations are warmly human. At my house, Grandpa, Grandma, and the grandchildren all enjoyed looking at the pictures and naming the parts.

I can see that a lot of work went into this book! Besides being a great reference book for me and my children, it is a work of art cover-to-cover. I'm planning to purchase more as Christmas gifts.

I read online about this book and ordered it just after its release. Beautiful artwork generated through a combination of handmade drawings and Photoshop or Photoshop-equivalent computer editing. Excellent technical vocabulary related to farming tasks. Perfect for a curious traveler, student, or budding artist. I'm just not 100% sure I need to own my own copy - but at this price, it's worth the splurge.

Solid 4 stars for this book.

I love this book. It is both a work of art and full of useful information. Some of the information is basic, but stuff that you can always review. The artwork and layout is fun and the hand written font is very cool. I like the texture of the cover and pages. It is a feast for the eyes if you like sketchy lines and handmade charm. Can't wait for another book like this!
