2.0 out of 5 stars Farm Dogs - a disappointment, August 2, 2007
This review is from: Farm Dogs: A Celebration of the Farm's Hardest Worker (Hardcover)
This is a very attractive book with very little substance and a great deal of inaccurate information. I was very disappointed - I had bought it as a gift for someone just getting into working stockdogs, and I thought it would be a nice introduction to farm dogs on a fairly superficial level.

Unfortunately, the book is very sloppily put together and not only do the descriptions in many cases not match the photographs they are intended for, but the information is often inaccurate. The book has some bewildering inconsistencies - for example, the description of the McNab (a smooth coated cousin of the border collie) is accompanied by a picture of what looks like a yellow lab puppy and a corgi!. A description of a Bernese mountain dog accompanies a picture of an anonymous large breed dog that is not identified at all.

If you are looking for a coffee table book of pretty pictures, then go ahead and indulge in this book, but it is not for anyone seriously interested in working farm dogs. I can accept the fact that this is not a book for the serious working dog enthusiast, but the many inaccuracies and bad editing are unforgivable.
