Save your money and buy a Brinsea or an R-com.

I spent three weeks without eggs in the incubator trying to get constant temperature, humidity and trying to get it not to spike.

Then went to see the incubator, to my horror the digital thermometer read "105"!

I'm not one to write reviews. However, maybe this will help others to make the best purchase decision.
After using a similar styrofoam model for 6 prior hatches with results ranging from 40% to 75% hatch rate, I purchased this model because of the features. Large Egg capacity, air circulation, egg turner, & viewing windows & of course, price.
I read other reviews which warned about not to trust the thermometer & thermostat. I figured that my digital thermometer would take care of any short comings.
After delivery, added some water Ran the incubator over night making adjustments to get within the range of 99.5-100 degrees. This took many adjustments quickly discovering that the two supplied thermometers were useless.
I added 30 Black Cooper Maran eggs from my own flock, checking and making minor adjustments as required throughout the day. After 7 days candled the eggs finding out that all were fertile. So, maybe all was good?
Over the new 2 weeks, I checked on the incubator at least 6 times per day making sure the temperature & moisture were in the correct ranges. All seemed fine. Turned off the egg turner 4 days before the expected hatch. When this batch was started, an additional 12 eggs was put under a brooder hen. On the 20th night the last check on the incubator was fine. Went to sleep expecting to welcome the sound of chirping chicks. On the morning of the 21st day, I checked on the hen. Half her eggs had hatched. Then went to see the incubator, to my horror the digital thermometer read "105"! Not sure why it spiked, but brought the temp back done. Ended up with two chicks out of 30.
Will try one more hatch. But not feeling confident.

I reviewed MANY different models before purchasing an incubator. Cost and user reviews played significant roles in which on we choose. Also of note, we dont have a lot of chickens, about a dozen, but it seemed cost effective to buy this product over smaller models (Brinsea mini or similar).

The two primary complaints we found while reviewing products was getting a unit to hold its temp. and getting a unit that displayed the temp. accurately. To me, getting a unit that holds the temp. accurately was more important than one displaying the temp wrongly because I can replace a thermometer much easier (and cheaper) than replacing a heating unit.

That being said, this unit does not need an additional thermometer - it comes with two. The primary thermometer/humidity gauge is labelled "For Reference Only" and mine was not accurate. In fact the thermometer is WAY off - about 10 degrees. Its a cheap piece likely used for the humidity gauge instead of temp. and can be easily removed/replaced if you wanted (I found using a cheap cooking thermometer works just fine, stick it through the styrofoam next to the original temp. gauge).

The unit does come with an additional thermometer, which works just fine. Farm Innovators suggests placing it on top of the eggs. This works/reads accurately.

As far as setting the temperature - follow the directions. They suggest running the unit for 6-8hrs before trying to incubate. Plan on randomly checking the temp (every 30 minutes to an hour) during that time until you have reached and are holding the proper temp.

****Bonus: I dont recall reading this in the product description or details, but I received a candling light with the product.

After much reading and researching I decided that I definitely wanted a circulating air incubator with an automatic turner. This has everything for a very reasonable price and they threw in a candler as well. The temp and humidity gauges are for reference only so I used a meat thermometer through one of the small vent holes on the top into the unit with the included bulb thermometer inside to calibrate my set up. Once that was done, it needed only minor tweaking when the eggs went in. The temperature stayed constant throughout the cycle. On day 18 I removed the turner, filled all water reservoirs and placed the eggs directly on the hardware-cloth (we live in Arizona and I didn't want anything that might have a drying effect, such as cloth or paper, under the eggs.) Today we are just starting day 21 and I am already at 60% hatch rate. I do move them to a brooder once they have been out of the shell for about an hour. Obtaining local eggs is something I would recommend if you have that option and my second recommendation is just let it happen, the more you stress, the more you stress the process.

I really liked the idea of the plastic shell because my cat loves the warm incubators and makes a mess of the others with her claws every time I forget to cover them up. But, this incubator cooked my first batch of eggs quite a few times. It is hard to control the temperature unless you have a room where the ambient temperature never fluctuates. I don't. I ran three incubators side by side this spring, and this one had wild temperature fluctuations when the others didn't. The dials also filled up with moisture so much that they couldn't be read. Even when the temperature was 105, the heater didn't shut off. It just kept right on cooking.
