Interesting but overpriced,
By Maree K (Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Farmacist Desk Reference (Hardcover)
Don Tolman's Farmacist Desk Reference (FDR) is, in some ways, a fascinating book. It incorporates nutrition, history and conspiracy theories in a sometimes bizarre but usually interesting way.If you're looking for a book on nutritional values of food, there are much cheaper alternatives than the FDR. Although the book does contain some very good nutritional information about almost any fruit, vegetable, nut, grain and seed you can think of, it's simply not worth buying for that information alone. Another major failing of the book is that clearly no editor or proof reader has been within a hundred miles of it. Misspellings, typos and grammar errors abound and unfortunately these often confuse the meaning of the text. The author also uses different coloured writing and fonts throughout the book, which although may fit in with his various theories, simply make the book hard to read. A few other items ring alarm bells. For example, there is reference to a Australian man who, Don tells us, is regarded as a 'national treasure' in Australia: I'm Australian & I've never heard of the guy. And some of the photos in the book are, I'm sure, taken from some 1950s horror movie. Don's theories have some sound basis to them. A lot of what he says is common sense. But he also engages in some scaremongering. Nevertheless, he's clearly a passionate man and the bulk of his message - eat healthily, exercise, avoid toxic relationships etc - is good stuff. I just think, for what it is, the FDR is way overpriced and needs a professional edit, both to fix up the mistakes and to present the information in a more user-friendly way (there's no index and it can be difficult to find information). At $150, if you're looking for nutritional information, can handle bad spelling, grammar and typos and have a soft spot for conspiracy theories and polemic, then go for it.

Brilliant information with passion,
By Mark Twain "Passionate in health" (Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Farmacist Desk Reference (Hardcover)
This reference guide is more than what you may think. It is a guide to understanding health and the current climate in the world as to why we are getting sicker and sicker. The solution; whole foods as our medicine.I highly recomend this book to help guide you through the misinformation and propoganda put out there by the Pharmaceuticals industry and other corporate bodies who are not intersested in our health but more intersted in massive profits! Don Tolman presents some amazing wisdom with passion and enthusiasm. There is also some alarming information presented that you must understand not only for your sake but for the sake of all of our children and future generations. A great investment.

Old World Knowledge Uncovered,

Modern doctors are excellent at hardware and putting people together again and thank God for that! However, it is painfully obvious that they are not so good in the software department. Eg, cancer, MS etc - they have been using the same methods for over 50 years to treat cancer with very questionable results. Hey, why don't we use cancer causing stuff like chemo and radiation to fight cancer (great thinking guys). If you want to learn old world methods of healing the body (naturally) - this book is for you. The books simplicity is deceiving, but you will instinctively know that it sounds right. Just ask you doctor how long he or she studied nutrition. They simply do NOT know the correlation between food and its interaction with our body + how the body uses food to heal. The father of modern medicine said - Let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food." - Hippocrates (460-377 B.C.) A must have book - in my humble opinion.

The Gift of Life...,

There are not words to adequately describe the wisdom and genuine concern for humanity that Don Tolman has. Don has empowered me and my family with the knowledge we needed to make healthy choices. More importantly, we are incredibly thankful for the time dedicated to educating my sister on living the principles of self-care at a time when traditional medicine gave her only 90 days to live with a very aggressive cancer. That was 9 months ago. Thanks to Don Tolman and the FDR she's recovering with no surgery, no chemo, and has resumed most of her normal activities. The FDR is priceless! Thanks Don!!

Easily the most comprehensive books on understanding your health,
This review is from: Farmacist Desk Reference (Hardcover)
This 2 book set is the ultimate. I have studied the human body and health for a few years now and this book is filled with priceless nuggets of information that communicated my breadth of studies in a few hundred pages. These books are a man's life-long quest for "truth" through nature. It's not only his insights into health that are astounding, but his overall collection of knowledge that he sets forth through this reference set.I had the pleasure of meeting this man about 16 years ago when i was a child and there was always this questions in my head of what Don was doing. So, after a web search I found his School that he has founded and this book. It is one of the most wonderful treasure in my book collection (Next to - Walter Russell, The Universal One / John Taylor Gatto, The Underground History of American Education). The price is far beneath the value of a lifetime's worth of knowledge.

I have been researching thoroughly the metaphysical, mathematical, ancient and scientific, conspiracy of health for a few years. I find most books isolate one of those things and neglect the others. This is the first book that understands that they all belong as one. I have applied the knowledge in Don Tolman's encyclopedia for over 2 years now, and I have never been sick since. I am undergoing the "living house work" that he describes. This book really is about how to achieve immortality in the end, but for those who are mundane, you can use it for standard good health practice. This book lifts the veil of mystery on disease and shows us that nature has had the answer all the time, and it is not our enemy, yet certain groups would make you believe it certainly is our enemy. Nature is complex, so that we do not have to be. We live in a scientific dictatorship where people won't believe anything unless it's explained to them in a broken down compartmentalized mundane way that eliminates any sort of fantastic or spiritual meaning. Do we really believe that we are just bags of meat walking around for no reason? There is no coincidence. Macrocosm Microcosm as above so below. It covers the conspiracy and almost goes into the New World Order. Don Tolman, if you are reading this please contact me, I would love to meet you someday.

This is TOP DRAWER material if you care about your health and that of your family and want to live as close to nature's way of being with food. It's beautifully illustrated and full of unusual insights you won't find in technical 'double-blind-trialled' research papers about food and health. I often just open it anwhere to enjoy reading over a quiet cuppa and I always find Don Tolman's ideas useful and informative, especially regarding common ailments for the family and optimal ways of dealing with them, especially via food and natural remedies.Patti
