The Old Farmer's Almanac 2007 Gardening Calendar, January 4, 2007
This review is from: The Old Farmer's Almanac 2007 Gardening Calendar (Calendar)
I find this calendar very useful.
It has very good information about gardening. At the end, it has an outdoor planting table that sgives the best dates and favorable moon for planting various fruits and vegetables.
It also has humorous notes concerning the moon (pink, full, wolf, snow, milk); special days [not funny](St. Patricks, May, Mothers, Valentine), and other reading matter.
The flower, fruit, and animal picures on each month are beautiful and the naration gives potential former and present uses (medicinal, beauty, etc..) or values.
The "Best Bets for Butterflies" gives us beneficial learning that will encourage butterflies into our yards and supply food for each stage; catepiller (larva), and adult (butterfly). That means nector from flowers for the adults and host plants for the catepiller. It even gives the particular host plant types for each group of butterfly catepiller (larva) discussed, which will draw the adult butterflies in to lay their eggs.
I enjoy the calendar very much.
Jerry

Not just practical anymore, January 18, 2007
This review is from: The Old Farmer's Almanac 2007 Gardening Calendar (Calendar)
Farmer's Almanac calendars have always been filled with interesting plant and enviromental info as well as "garden wisdom of the ages". But this special anniversary edition has beautiful and colorful plant illustrations. It's now as lovely to hang on the wall as it is interesting to read. I hope they keep up the new format. A real deal at this price.

I buy this calendar every year when a new one comes out. The smaller size allows it to fit in my kitchen drawers instead of hanging on a wall. I also like the fact that I can write in the space for each day since there is enough room.
