My wife and I have been purchasing this calendar for many years. The photos are always interesting, sometime spectacular, showing different weather effects on landscapes from all over the world. Not a large calendar, but still affording ample room (white space) to write notes in the date cells, and all U.S. holidays are noted, including Christian, Jewish and Muslim religious holidays, and some international holidays (particularly Canadian). The last page contains a complete calendar for the following year, handy for advance planning. Each month has some interesting notes on weather terms and special days, and the dates of the moon phases for the present month are displayed at the side. All in all, an attractive, interesting calendar. Note that, while the name is "Farmer's Almanac," there are no weather PREDICTIONS, just weather-related pictures and general facts.

This review is of THE OLD FARMER'S ALMANAC 2012 WEATHER WATCHER'S CALENDAR. The best I can say of it is that the month-by-month weather pictures are beautiful and do not always portray mountain vistas or long-shots; what conveys "April" better than a small flock of black ducks toughing it out on the edge of a rain-speckled lake? But in most other respects it comes up deficient. It is amazingly unlike its book-almanac progenitor and comes out stripped, streamlined and severe. There's no salient information about forecasting weather or even how to avoid bad weather. Even phases of the moon are not shown within the days of the month but in a panel alongside. Major religious holidays along with American and Canadian celebrations are indicated, along with some trivia on the margins ("How do Joshua trees survive in the desert?") but on the whole it is not packed with information. Perhaps it couldn't be, because this calendar measures not quite eleven inches (27.5 cm) side to side and not quite seventeen inches (42 cm) tall opened up. It has the hole punched for hanging, but at this price (three bucks more than the paperback FARMER'S ALMANAC itself), something larger and more family-friendly for the wall is a more practical choice.

One yearns for the days when the local bank or Rexall would give December customers a decent wall calendar with moon phases and other astronomica--free! Weather bugs will probably like this calendar -- to me it's not really a poor choice but something larger and/or cheaper is much to be preferred. Consider Donald Verger's "STORMS" 2012 Fine Art Wall Calendar, drastically reduced, heavier, larger, and totally focused on long shots of storm fronts. I reviewed it just a few notches above this.

By the way, Amazon, in future kindly wave your spell-checker over your use of 'calender'[sic].

I bought this calendar hoping for exciting weather photography, interesting weather trivia, and of course, a calendar. Unfortunately, the photographs are more general nature than weather and only a few of them are of the quality I expected. In addition, the factoid given for the particular month is rarely interesting, only mildly informative and certainly not worth the purchase of the calendar. I will continue my search for a weather calendar that I truly enjoy and I recommend you pass on this one.
