Taken into account are the way in which similarities in social class and ideology provided historical continuity to these movements. However, the detailed chapters on these developments-from Colonial times for farmers' movements and from the early years of this century for farm workers' efforts-are clotted with repetitive and convoluted writing and excessive detail that often obscure the argument.
