I made an entire meal for a party of 10 out of the spring season section (the book is divided into seasons). It was easy to use, and fun to experiment. I normally don't like to experiment on guests because I am not a really experienced cook so I follow recipes like a chemist, and sometimes that doesn't work well if recipes aren't really well tested. These were all well tested and each one worked on the first try. Now I use the book to make up my shopping lists when I go to the farmer's market and experiment with new ways to use local produce. Fantastic!

This book has been so inspiring. I made the pickles last week. Normally I pass on the cucumbers for pickling. But because i had saw the recipe in the book I decided to try it.
It was really fun and they turned out great. Can't wait to try the next recipe.

I am so impressed by this cookbook. A big thing for me in cookbooks is pictures, and this book has some gorgeous ones. The recipes also seem very personal and true to the region, however the best thing about the book in my opinion is the way in which it is organized. There are some basic recipes provided that serve as bases for recipes in the book (such as stocks, for example), but otherwise the book is divided into four categories, each one representing a season. Each season has an extensive amount of incredibly original and appetizing recipes, and even winter (which I know most people find to be somewhat of a barren and boring season in terms of produce and cooking), has some great ideas.

A big complaint about cooking fresh and seasonally is that it can be difficult to 1) determine which items are actually in season, and 2) to come up with recipes that are both interesting and true to the season. The organization of this book remedies these qualms completely, and even makes me want to stay true to the seasons. I really recommend this book to farmers market lovers, or people who are interested in learning how to cook seasonally, or just people who love food!

Our daughter recently moved to Davis and loves the Davis farmer's market, so we couldn't resist getting this for her. We are not at all sorry, but the reason I didn't give the book 5 stars is because some of the recipes are rather fancy. We expected a farmer's market cookbook to be a bit more down-to-earth than this is. However, it is beautiful and fun.
