5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best cookbooks you can own!, December 27, 2006

This review is from: The Farmhouse Cookbook: Traditional Recipes from a Country Kitchen (Hardcover)
While I realize this cookbook is out of print and hard to find, you should do what you can (legally) to acquire a copy of it. I have a rather extensive collection of cooking tomes and I have to say that this one is most definitely a necessity for any kitchen, country-themed or not.

The recipes themselves are easy to prepare (for the most part), with simple and easy-to-follow instructions that are anything but vague and mysterious. The ingredients are typically anything one can find in any supermarket throughout the country, so no worries about exotic or rare food items here. The pictures included are also not only beautifully shot, but very helpful in both preparation and plating.

The true beauty of this book, though, is again that you need not have a country kitchen to make and enjoy the recipes herein. There are some that are perfect for a summer barbecue, spring meal, or autumn feast. A good portion, though, are ideal for winter, with stick-to-the-ribs comfort foods and seasonal offerings used in the recipes. It's a great way to use organic ingredients in your everyday cooking, too. While the book never specifically calls for them, you can easily adapt the recipe to be completely organic and totally health-conscious.

Overall, it really is a great companion to any cook in any kitchen. If the country theme is actually what you are going for, though, then you should definitely track down and purchase a copy of this cookbook. I highly recommend it and the recipes are delicious!

2.0 out of 5 stars Just not my type of Farmhouse cooking, August 15, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Farmhouse Cookbook: Traditional Recipes from a Country Kitchen (Hardcover)
The service from my ebayer was great- price was great----- but the book was nothing of what I had expected... I guess FarmHouse Cooking means different things to different parts of the country but the recipes were nothing like I would prepare. The ingredients werent what you would have " on hand " and didnt look like anything children might eat.
Half of the ingredients in the recipes were things we dont have in the South and defantely not in my Country Kitchen...
Give me more Paula Dean, the Neeleys, Sandra Lee , Bobby Flay type of cooking.

Just not my type of Cooking but might be Great for Other Parts of the Country.
