5.0 out of 5 stars a MUST HAVE for anyone who drives equines!
"Farming with Horses" is THE ONLY book i have found that explains, in depth, the engineering behind the correct way to hitch. it is lavishly illustrated with color photos and graphics. i have recommended it to drivers of single horses all the way up to 4-in-hands. Don't be put off by the title...it is a MUST HAVE reference for anyone who drives carriages as well as farm...

2.0 out of 5 stars Myopic treatment of horse farming
This book gives EXCELLENT detail on an variety of subjects. But its focus is more narrow than the title describes. In terms of equipment, hitching and roping options this book is thorough with very illustrative pictures. However, there are older draft/horse farming books out there that offer a much more complete picture. Feeding, bone structure, health diagnostic,...

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book on driving horses, February 24, 2007
This review is from: Farming with Horses (Country Workshop) (Paperback)
This is the best book on driving horses that I have ever read, and I've read everything on the subject that I can find. The information is not confined to farming with horses. There is valuable information on training, hitching, aligning teams and many other things that is applicable to any type of horse driving. This is a must book for beginners and experience professionals as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Farming with Horses, March 8, 2007
This review is from: Farming with Horses (Country Workshop) (Paperback)
The text and photographs in this book are equally instructional. Especially enlightening is the book's emphasis on the humane approach to farming with drafts -- an approach that benefits the horse, the driver, and the land as well.

This book provided an excellent read and a good overall picture of the topic. Even though it is written for the American market it has a lot of information that is transferrable to Australia and other countires. A good buy for people interested in the topic, especially for beginners such as myself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Farming with Horses, September 8, 2009

This review is from: Farming with Horses (Country Workshop) (Paperback)
This is a excellent book for beginners wanting to learn how to harness, hitch and drive draft horses. The high-quality photos are excellent, and the text is well-written and easy to understand. There is very good information here which is not to be found in other books on draft horses. This book does not really teach how to farm with horses, but it does teach you everything you need to know before you actually go out and plow a field. I would like to see a sequel which goes into actual farming with horses. This is a very useful book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Farming with Horses, October 19, 2010

This review is from: Farming with Horses (Country Workshop) (Paperback)
Wonderfully informative book - consider purchasing the DVD as well they go hand in hand. The book contains numerous photographs and drawing with captions detailing what the author is describing. The book is set up in a logic progression of harnessing a horse, the equipment, using horses, how they pull, things to look for to indicate incorrect harnessing or horse not pulling correctly - and corrective actions, un-harnessing, equipment maintenance, and how to hold the lines or reins in draft and pleasuring driving.

He has no fluff, and the material is to the point, and topical. It is a lot of material to digest - and thought provoking, yet the author leads the reader down the path of one step followed by the next.

If you are thinking about getting back to a green, organic, less petroleum based way of farming, or if you just have an interest in how our ancestors did work with animals, this is an excellent book.

Great book on harnessing, hitching and driving the draft horse. But little in other topics of farming. The books needs a new title. Great pictures, has a neat concept of a trainer using a golf cart. should include plans for it though. overall good book to have in your horse library
