Reviewed by Horn Book Guide Reviews (Horn Book Guide Reviews 2011 Fall)
"Peep! Peep! Peep-peep-peep! / All that peeping wakes up... / Sheep!" When one barnyard animal can't sleep, it wakes the next creature with its particular noise. This goes on until Farmer Sue catches the contagious beat; then it's party time. Craig's rhymes bop, and there's much to graze on in Brown's collages featuring hand-painted papers. My three year old son loves this book.
Dan Kimmel
The text has a perfect combination of rhyme, rhythm and repetition which makes it easy for a young child to learn and then "read" along.

Loved this book! As a grandma of a 4 and 5 year old, I look for books that will create a bond of fun with me, as well as instilling a love for reading. Once again Lindsey Craig has done it. The creative repetition, rhyme, and beautiful illustratons once again have my grandchildren mesmerized.

Now here’s a rhythmic farmyard tale that’s scored for reader and infant to chant together at bed time. The farmyard beat infects the chickens, the sheep, the cat, the dog, and finally farmer Sue. Nobody can sleep because they all have that beat that keeps them excited and dancing. What a racket….until all are danced out and sorely exhausted that they all fall asleep in a comfortable heap. Sounds like a good story to get the little ones singing and dancing with the simple words until so tuckered out, they simply mimic the animals and fall asleep. The illustrations to this colorful musical book are original, they consist of colorful collages made from hand-painted paper. The pictures are dynamic, colorful, vibrant and carry the movement of the repetitive, frenetic beat of the simple but pulsating words. This is a good book for the bedtime reading and for beginning readers to try to match words with pictures. They are sure to giggle at the silly dancing farm critters.

My family loved this book! It is reminiscent of Good Night Moon but with lovely repeating "fun-animal-sound-words! We loved Lindsey Craigs's first book "Dancing Feet" and now we are so happy to have the second delightful and charming sweet story that all children will love to read along with their parents. A classic!

Currently, this is our 16 month old's favorite book. Read it with an upbeat tempo instead of the usual sing song of most children's books and I think your children will love this book too! Whenever she wants us to read it she says "Peep peep!" in reference to what the chicks in the book say. Teaches them musical rhythm, rhyming, and different animal sounds, If you can get them to dance with it you can work some body movement in there too. :-) Worthwhile book, great as a gift especially for musical parents.

The sing-song in this book is so fun to read out loud. My children quickly learned the various rhythm combinations. We loved reading this story!

I've enjoyed reading this book to my daughter. It has solid rhythms and rhymes to make it fun to read while also introducing her to language patterns. The book does introduce kids to animals and the various noises that they make, or at least to how we as people convey their sounds ("woof," "cluck," etc.).

I do wish that "Hank," the dog in the book, had been named as a dog in the text rather than just noted by the name Hank. He is the only animal to have a people name rather than just be noted by the animal that he is, other than Farmer Sue.

this book has become a favorite around here for my 2.5 year old! She can basically recite it. We checked it out from the library a few months before Christmas, and she loved it so much we just had to get it for her. It's super cute, and if you add your own rhythm to it, it makes a great little "song" as well.

The verses in this book are so catchy and cute! My son knows all the words and "raps" along with us when we read it to him at night. We bob our heads together and sing the whole book together now. We loved it so much we bought another book by her as well!
