3.0 out of 5 stars OK
This stuff is really expensive and didn't seem to make much of a difference for my cat. I know it's gotten a lot of great reviews, which is why I'm a little disappointed and only giving it a 3.

The scenario: my 6 months old kitten adopted from a garbage pit 4 months ago, for many unpreventable medical and physiological reasons reverted back to her feral state; fearful, crying, and creating all-night insanity, making sleep impossible for me, the other cats, and perhaps the neighbors as well.
Most alarming was that the stressful condition she was in altered her appetite, and the most she would consume was some warm milk.
I didn't want to add to the medications she was already taking, with a prescription of something like Diazepam (Valium), so decided to give "Comfort Zone" a try.

I noticed an improvement within 8 hours, and by 36 hours, all her feral symptoms had vanished, and she was calm, slept through the night, ate, and was her charming, cuddly self again. During the first 36-72 hour period, there were some "extras", like her rubbing against my legs while I was standing in the kitchen, but now things are back to normal, and she is behaving the way one would expect a healthy 6 month old to act.
The last month has been quite an ordeal, but with the help of "Comfort Zone," I feel as though a miracle has taken place, with harmony and peace back in our humble but cozy abode.

This 48 oz. bottle lasts approximately 4 weeks, covers about 650 sq. ft. and is recommended for all situations that cause stress in a cat, from new environments to the addition of a new pet in the family. It will also treat "urine marking," another symptom my kitty was exhibiting, as she would spray against the wall instead of urinating into the litter, a nasty habit that required a lot of cleaning up and that "Comfort Zone" has cured.
Completely odorless, the feline facial pheromone that is the active ingredient does not affect humans, except to improve their lives by making their fur friends happier.
I will be buying refills every month, making sure I never run out of this amazing product.

my cat has had problems for almost a year now, and the vet was at the end of her recommendations other than an expensive trip to a university for a complete workup. in desperation, i tried feliway (i was pretty skeptical). within hours, i noticed that he had stopped pacing the house, and now (two weeks later) he has returned to very much like his old self. he's laying in the bed with me and my husband again, and is content to lay around the house, as any normal cat should do, instead of pacing back and forth from litterbox to litterbox.

additionally, chase has addison's disease, and the calming effect has reduced his need for long-term steroids. i've been able to wean him off of them completely over the past two weeks. so now here i am, shopping for a refill! i paid $50 in the pet store for a plug-in and one bottle, and they sold the refills for $20, just to give you an idea of what this stuff costs in the "real world." i think i'll stick to buying it online. :)

good luck with your kitties!

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE this product!, February 19, 2005
I have three cats: 2, 10 year olds and a 10 month old. The older male was urinating outside of his box and the older female was not very sociable when children were around. Both problems started long before the kitten came. I started using Feliway after a vet visit confirmed nothing was medically wrong with the male. Within a month, after the carpets were also throughly cleaned, the male was using his box again! The female started to visit more often and has even sat on the kids laps! The older male cat also plays a lot with the kitten. Everyone is getting along really well! I know it's the Feliway and I won't stop using it EVER!

5.0 out of 5 stars Happy cat factory, May 18, 2006
In a household with 24 cats, (that's not a typo, there ARE 24) we are the perfect test ground for cat products. We bought the feliway spray, and a plug in to try to calm a couple of our more high strung cats. Most of them were feral at one time, a couple of them abandon and abused. I really had my doubts, but I admit I've seen a huge change in some of them. Our poor big Ghost has lived in the rafters for the two years he's lived here. The only time he would come down from the hutch would be to run to his box...and he would always be chased by two or three of the other cats. The stress caused I.B.S. problems, every two to three months he was on antibiotics. The day after putting the plug in in the kitchen, he ventured down to floor level, and went into the bathroom to nap. That was the first time he ever slept at floor level. That was two weeks ago, and each day he tries something new. He sleeps with my husband every night now, just loves the bed. Today I found him sleeping on the bed with 4 or 5 of the other cats...some of them his old enemies! He is our best sucess, several of the others are less aggressive, especially towards Ghost. There are still some small problems, but I am really thrilled with this product. I'm going to order my refill today.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Wish I'd Bought Feliway A Long Time Ago..., May 16, 2006
By
HJW "o8Heather8o" (The High Desert...) - See all my reviews
To the Feliway product description information above, I would also add, "Aids in calming cats...who manage stressful chronic health conditions."

My 4yr. old neutered male cat manages several chronic health conditions, which at times create seemingly unrelated behavioral issues, when flare ups occur that jangle his nerves. When his IBD is not well controlled, my otherwise angelic cat becomes stressed out & does deadly things - chewing through power cords, consuming inedible objects, eating plants untouched for years, climbing to & jumping/falling from extremely high places aggravating his arthritis, & more. When he's not feeling well, acting-out is his way of externalizing his bad nerves & telling me, "I don't feel well, help me".

So I bought a Feliway Diffuser for him for his birthday a few weeks ago, & the change in my cat's behavior was noticeable within the first few hours after plugging it in. Initially, I noticed a personality change - sort of a mellowing effect, reflecting a more leveled out & increased general sense of well-being. I see less lethargy, & more interest in social interaction, his environment, & play. It's a subtle overall field effect, but his happiness & joy somehow seem happier. I've noticed I've had an easier time with giving him his regular medications & brushing his teeth. It's a synthetic feline facial pheromone, but I call it "the airborne feline prozac"... And without putting more chemicals into his system that don't belong in the body, & their problematic side effects. My cat seems to appreciate the general change in the overall atmosphere of his home, & occasionally, he even sleeps underneath the diffuser.

The benefits my cat experiences also pass on to me - because if he is less stressed & upset, & doing fewer life threatening things in reaction to his nerves - then I'm less stressed out as well. I'd rather buy him Feliway, than spend money on veterinary visits & additional medication to deal with new problems he creates when he's stressed. And there have been a lot of them.

Feliway contains an odorless oil by human standards, & it does not upset my cat's severe asthma or allergies, nor my own more moderate conditions. In fact, I am wondering that if he's less stressed out psychologically - & in turn physiologically - if there might even be less asthma & less digestive upset due to a reduction in the cycle of internalized stress. And if it improves his overall quality of life, I'd much rather buy him peace instead of more doctors...

I live in a small 1 person unit, & 1 diffuser does seem to cover the entire place. I unplug ours when the window is open, & plug it back in when it's closed, while I sleep or am away, & any time I think he might benefit from it. The plastic bottle can be unscrewed from the plug-in unit & recapped to preserve it until your next use. This may help to extend the 6 week life span recommended in the packaging information, we'll find out. I would also add that the diffuser gets warm, but not hot to the touch, & certaintly not hot enough to burn a hand or singe a whisker or fur. I have handled the diffuser many times during use, & I have no fear of allowing my cat to be directly near it.

The only negative aspect of this product so far as I can determine is how much you'll want to kick yourself for waiting to buy it for long as you did... As a pet store employee recently told me, "It is one of the few behavior mod products for cats on the market that actually does work." While there is no substitute for building & maintaining a solid, trusting relationship with your pet - or for seeking competent veterinary care - Feliway does seem like it could be a great adjunct to it.

Feliway gets 2 Thumbs & Paws Up from kitty & me. =^..^=

Clem is a mild mannered (let's say wimpy) 3 yr. old neutered male cat, one of five of my rescued kitties. But it was he who was spraying, in the worst of places, mostly on my kitchen counters, stove top, appliances, etc. I had only caught him marking once, but I knew he was the guilty one. He is such a sweet loving boy otherwise, gets along fine with the others, but I was at my wit's end, having gone through gallons of Natures' Miracle and still finding urine.

Nine days ago, I saw a Feliway plug-in on sale at the feed store. I'd heard about it on animal shows, so decided to give it a try. So far so good! I haven't found any urine outside of the litter box. As for Clem's behavior, he seems LESS wimpy, and more assertive. He even chased off a grey fox the other day! Maybe he was just really neurotic and insecure before, having been through several homes, and rescued from the pound at the last minute. My other cats are all fine also. One female used to pick on another very shy female, but I haven't noticed any of that either the past week. I'm definitely going to buy refills. Hope it keeps working so well! If only we humans had such an easy solution for our behavior problems!

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Great, November 7, 2005
I have six cats and the oldest isn't really happy with all the new additions. Using Feliway has been a big help. It has stopped him from spraying when he got mad at us for bringing in others. I have two units in my house, at one time I had three plug-ins and tried to only have one, but that didn't work. Wish it wasn't so costly, but it works. Don't buy in a local pet store, they charge almost double. Buy on-line.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works for us!, February 6, 2006
We recently bought a house that was previously inhabited by a cat who urinated all over the basement. Unfortunately for us, this brought out the worst in my normally litter trained cat. We found her urinating outside of the litter box on many occasions. After taking her to the vet and finding out that there was no medical reason for this, our vet recommended feliway. We have been using it for 3 months now and there are no problems, just a happy kitty!

4.0 out of 5 stars Diffuser works, but now I'll try the Feliway Spray, July 23, 2005
I found the diffuser in a store and thought it was quite expensive, but with two male cats (both neutered!) marking territory in my little house I was desperate to try anything. Its really hard to judge how well the product works, but I believe it helped calm down my more anxious cat and it seemed to me that spraying occurred much less. I only gave it four stars because spraying didn't stop altogether. My cats seem to mark the same places over and over, so I'm going to purchase the spray to use in those locations - fingers crossed!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Last Resort..... and it Worked!, February 28, 2006
The problem: my roommate brought three young male cats (all neutered, but after puberty) into the home with my two 6.5 y/o twins (spayed young), which I'd had since they were 3.5 weeks old. At first they seemed to be adjusting just fine, but suddenly both my cats retreated to my bedroom and refused to come out.
In the past, my cats had spent 5 years with another cat, seven months with another, a few more with another, about a month with 2 miniature pinschers and many weekends with my sister's 80 lb. Weimaraner. So they had been around a large variety of other animals. It was baffling at first, but in watching the behaviors of the male cats, they were attempting to go through the motions of mating. The youngest was just incessant with chasing my cats and finally, one developed a stress-related UTI and I had to give her an antibiotic for 37 days. And there was talk about putting my cats on Prozac... an idea I didn't much like.
I tried several other herbal remedies that were suggested, but they were useless. Well, catnip helped a little, but wore off too fast. Feliway was suggested by a friend with cats. I had been reluctant to try it because of the price but I ended up getting a great deal. I bought one for the boys' area and one for the girls' room.
I began to see subtle changes in all of the cats within the first 3 days. After a month, I am definitely purchasing the refills. One of my cats has started venturing out of my room on her own and the other enjoys coming out if I carry her to her "safe chair" by my computer and lock out everyone but her sister. A month ago, I couldn't get her out from under the bed.
I had been quite skeptical and feared that I was wasting a lot of money, but it made a tremendous difference. The problem isn't 100% solved, but it is so much better, I can't imagine living without Feliway!
