I purchased this hair dryer as a Christmas present for my wife. So far, she is happy with it and says that it works good. But I noticed some language in the Owner's Manual that I wanted to warn everyone about. On the last page at the end of the "Service" section (which is separate from the "Guarantee" section), the following language appears:
"The appliance is only under warranty if purchased from a professional salon. The purchase of the appliance will not be guaranteed if purchased through any other outlet including the internet."
So be forewarned that if you purchase this product via the internet, the one year warranty will not apply.

My hairstylist recommended this hair dryer--it is the one she uses on my hair at the salon. My hair always looks better after she styles it--and I use the same shampoo and brush that she does--that meant it was time to invest in the dryer. The dryer is pretty quiet and light. Seems like it is made well enough--must be since my stylist has been using it everyday (multiple times) for more than 3 years. I looked at upgrading since there are newer CHI's out there--but this one was cheaper and I knew for sure that it would do a good job. I don't regret not getting one of their fancier more powerful models--I'm not trying to fry my hair, just dry and shape it. After my other professional hairdryer died (did a good job--but got crushed in an accident), I began using a $20 cheapie--what a mistake. When people tell you that all hairdryers are the same, it is because they don't really know. My research has indicated that CHI is only brand on the market with full ceramic components--not just ceramic coated. I really didn't want to spend all this money--but my hair actually looks much better and others have noticed. I would recommend this dryer--it was worth the price to me.

Purchased this hair dryer six months ago and the heating element failed. Pretty short lifespan for a dryer. Called mfg. and was told warranty is VOID if purchased online (I confirmed this on Chi's website) and they also stated Amazon is not an authorized retailer. Amazon made good on the warranty after a few phone calls and sent a replacement unit.
This warranty exclusion applies to all Farouk Systems products according to the mfg. I'm sure Amazon will honor the existing warranties but be prepared for a little extra work if your unit fails.

I generally don't write reviews, but I was blown away by this hair dryer (no pun intended). It's truly an engineering feat that this hair dryer possesses the characteristics of being both powerful and quiet while simultaneously having an EXTREMELY low weight. (This last characteristic became important to me when, at one point, while using my SuperSolano, my neck suddenly went out while drying my hair one morning - not fun!)
Upon my initial use of the CHI Rocket, it seemed that it had very little power, but before I knew it, my hair was dry AND smooth (my hair type is wavy and very long), and I wasn't working very hard to get it that way; I would surmise that it cut my drying time by 30% - 40%. Also (and possibly more importantly), upon waking the following morning, my hair still looked great - and I usually have to wash my hair every single morning, without fail. Given that this time of the year is the most humid, the results of my "morning test" become even more impressive.
For the Amazon price, this dryer seems that it would be a good investment, given it is a tool that I usually must use on a daily basis (saves time, time is money, and all that jazz). I generally am extremely skeptical about a beauty product's or tool's scientific claims (ion technology, biochemical therapeutic claims, etc.) given that my background is in the sciences, so I know that half of the claims are false or can be achieved by a $3 product/tool competitor, but someone knew what they were doing when they designed this puppy, so I'm more apt to believe that it's better for hair health as well; what is definitely true is that cutting drying time will save some hair damage.
Great product. Fingers crossed that it lasts!

It meets all the claims when it works; after about 10 months, its starting to die. It will quit heating for a while, then start heating, then quit...an so on. After trying it with an extension cord from a different, more modern, electrical plug, the problem seems not as bad. I wonder if they circutry was cheaply made and can't handle ANY minor normal power fluctuations. I don't expect the unit will work though the end of the month. Buyer beware.
See below: these guys get real crabby when their distributor middle men arn't getting the cut they think they diserve.
There is NO WARRANTY for this unit sold from any internet distributor, as from the manufacturers' (Farouk, Houston, TX) website: "Any product manufactured by Farouk Systems, Inc. will lose its warranty if purchased from an internet distributor of any sort. Farouk Systems can not guarantee the quality of the products that are sold over the internet. Besides that, It is against company policy for internet distributors to sell our products. Any CHI appliance or Top Blade products are only under warranty if purchased from a Professional Salon."

I was very interested in buying a good hairdryer and started reading the reviews on this particular hairdryer. I was alarmed at the number and the content of the reviews that said that Farouk wouldn't honor a warranty claim on a hairdryer that didn't work so, I went directly to Farouk's website and contacted them through their contact email asking as much. Their response was very quick and here it is (from Nancy Garcia at Farouk):
FAROUK Systems does not authorize our products to be sold on-line. We cannot guarantee any products sold on-line are true
CHI products. You may purchase our items at any one of our authorized retailers or salons. I am attaching a copy of our
return policy that gives you further details.

So bottom line: Buyer beware. Maybe these are not authentically Farouk products?? But here's the interesting thing ---Amazon explicitly states on the product page that this product is ONLY covered for 30 days (read on)!!!!

I am not the type to spend a ton of money on a hair dryer. In the past I have always gone to Wal-Mart and purchased some cheapo conair or remington dryer, and they seemed to do the trick just fine-- I mean, how much difference can a hair dryer make really? (A lot, as it turns out!) My old dryer died on me, so I decided to splurge on this one since my hair dresser has used Chi styling tools on my hair before with great results (though I attributed that mostly to her skill and not to the Chi tools). My hair is about 5 inches below the collar bone, extremely thick and curly, but I wear it straightened usually, and it is very dry from regular highlights. I basically hated my hair because it is such a fried, poofy mess. An average day would take me 20-25 minutes to blow dry (after thoroughly towel drying), plus an additional 10-15 minutes to flat iron-- a step I could never skip because of the frizz left over in my hair. Even then my hair looked average at best, limp and dull and crunchy at the ends. This CHI dryer has changed my life!! After towel drying, it takes me 12 minutes to blow out my hair, and the best part is my hair is shiny, smooth, soft, and no flat iron necessary. I have never before been able to skip my flat iron. Never. I've never felt like I had a true "aha" moment with a beauty product before, always scoffing at before and after shots during hair commercials, but since using this dryer I really feel like an "after." My hair used to only look this good when I walked out of the salon. Now I have salon hair every day; it makes me feel so much prettier and really has given my confidence a boost. Who knew a hair dryer really could make such a big difference? Lastly, though there is no temperature control (other than a cool button), the temp seems to adjust to be just right-- my hair doesn't steam anymore like it used to and I don't get sweaty from drying my hair. The dryer is neither heavy nor light-- intermediate I'd say. The attachment makes it a little longer than other dryers I've used which took some getting used to but isn't problematic. Love the color and the cord is nice and long, thick enough so it doesn't curl up on itself.
Bottom line: worth every penny. immense time saver, leaves even unruly frizzy crunchy hair soft, shiny, and smooth. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!

After purchasing numerous dryers and returning them for various reasons, my hairdresser recommended this one as she bought one. I love it. It is low on noise. Others I tried were so loud they hurt my ears while I was drying my hair. It does not blow too hard, blowing your hair all over the place. It seems to dry it faster and reduces the frizziness. The heat is hot enough but not so hot it burns your face or scalp. Lastly, it is not too heavy. I bought one for my daugher also, and she really likes it. Hopefully it will last a long time.

I am African American with unrelaxed, mixed texture hair (kinky/curly). This dryer worked really well on the low setting. I tried to use the high setting (setting II), but couldn't stand the heat. I've used it only twice but it makes a huge difference when compared to my old $20 dryer. It was quick and left my hair feeling great. It's also lightweight, making the task of drying thick hair a lot easier.

I saw these hair dryers in the store a while ago, and thought it was nuts to spend close to a hundred dollars on a hair dryer. There was nothing wrong with my $30 model; my hair dried just fine. This hairdryer, though, works so much better!
A few weeks ago, I went to a spa and while I was drying my hair, I noticed -- it was so conspicuous -- how quiet the dryer was. I finished drying my hair in what seemed like less time, and left the spa feeling like the treatment left my hair softer and smoother than before. I thought it was just the spa environment. The next day I bothered to notice the brand of the hairdryer, and was recognized the "chi" brand.
I came home and bought the hairdryer, knowing I could return it to the store if my experience didn't duplicate the experience I had at the spa.
I still have the hairdryer. The dryer is much more quiet, it dries my hair faster, AND it does leave it smoother (it wasn't the spa products or their water!). I wish I had bought this years ago.... it is so very much worth it.
STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. This model is great. Maybe the $200 model is better, but this one is good enough. If I were to lose the dryer tomorrow, I would go out and repurchase it again quickly. It really is that good.
