Farscape-Instantly Addictive Box Set, September 5, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Farscape - Collection 2 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I stumbled across Farscape one Friday night this summer when there was nothing good on TV. Without knowing much about it and even being very confused, I was instantly addicted. I bought this box set to catch up on some of the show's history. What I found is that this show is probably the best sci-fi on TV these days. It has compelling (and likeable) characters, equal parts humor and drama, and stunning make-up and sets. This box set has some very good episodes that give interesting entertainment while establishing necessary background info about the main characters. Tape one contains PK Tech Girl. Good episode where Rygel must confront his inner demons and Aeryn starts to show a bit of the green-eyed monster when John finds himself attracted to a peacekeeper tech. That old Black Magic is also a great episode with Zhaan having to unlock her dark side to save John from his confrontation with Crais. Great to be able to see a little of what makes Crais tick. Tape Two contains: DNA mad scientist. Good, unconventional episode with a rare look at the vulnerabilities of the main characters. It also contains They've got a secret. This is a great episode with D'Argo's pain-filled past coming to light and Moya(the living ship) has a secret of her own. Tape Three contains: Till the Blood runs clear, a good episode that shows John's desperation to try to get home, but a bounty on his shipmates' heads changes plans. Cute scenes with Zhaan's reaction to solar flares. The last episode in this set is Rhapsody in Blue. This episode contains interesting information on what makes Zhaan so unique from others of her kind and why Zhaan was originally imprisoned by Peacekeepers. All in all a very good video set. Very worth buying. Even if you are not a sci-fi fan per se, get this set. It is one of the most impressive forays into sci-fi with heart you are likely to see.

The Voyage Continues, July 15, 2001
This review is from: Farscape - Collection 2 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
As I write this, Farscape is well into its 3rd season. I have known about the existance of Farscape from its beginnings. However I never bothered to watch the show because it looked so weird. Knowing that "muppets" (I tease as the show is produced by Jim Henson Entertainment) played two of the characters didn't help. But with everything else in reruns and SciFi showing new episodes, I thought, "What the heck." So I watched an episode and was surprised at how quickly I was absorbed into the show despite knowing almost nothing about it. Five episodes later I can say I am hooked and have purchased "Farscape - Collection 2". As with Collection 1, there are 3 tapes containing 6 episodes. Tape 1: "PK Tech Girl" & "That Old Black Magic" Tape 2: "DNA Mad Scientist" & "They've Got A Secret" Tape 3: "Till The Blood Runs Clear" & "Rhapsody in Blue" "DNA Mad Scientist" contains some very surprising things that would NEVER get told in a Star Trek episode! But surprise is one of the key elements of Farscape and this puts it above all current-running sci-fi programming (IMO).
