5.0 out of 5 stars terrific, even if you've never seen the show, November 2, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Farscape: Music from the Original Soundtrack (Audio CD)
The music on this compilation is simply great, even if you've never heard of Farscape. I bought this before I'd seen any of the episodes they came from (I'd seen some later episodes not represented on this CD) and it really made no difference at all. This CD stands alone - as long as you like bizarre music of no identifiable genre that just, I don't know, it WORKS. Impossible to describe.

But the CD is an added treat for Farscape fans, because I still think the first two seasons' theme was better than the watered-down version they use now.

4.0 out of 5 stars Frelling great, but could have been even better, November 26, 2004
This review is from: Farscape: Music from the Original Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Farscape is by far my favorite sci-fi series of all time and probably always will be, so when I saw this soundtrack I just had to add it to my soundtrack collection. The music isn't as grand as other sci-fi series or movies, but it's still great in its own right (And who really cares about that other dren anyways). I wouldn't suggest this soundtrack for non-farscape fans (if there is any out there), but for avid fans of the series its just great. The only problem I have with the soundtrack, and the reason I give it a four instead of a five, is that it is only the music from the first two seasons. In my opinion, the music from seasons 3 and four, which are not included on this soundtrack, is even better. Like the series as a whole, it only got better as it went along. If that music was included on this soundtrack it would be that much frelling better. So if you're looking for the Aeryn-Crichton love theme featured prominantly in season three and subtly in season four, you won't find it here. Nor will you find the excellently dramatic theme featured in the scene of the destruction of Scorpius' command carrier towards the end of the third season. For those looking for something with a little more pinash, look for the Peacekeeper Wars soundtrack. It's a bit more grand in scale and will probably fit the liking of the partial farscape fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent musical space odyssey, March 25, 2001
This review is from: Farscape: Music from the Original Soundtrack (Audio CD)
"Farscape" has become one of my favorite science fiction television programs. The story of a human astronaut who gets thrown through a "wormhole" into a distant part of space, "Farscape" combines the conventions of epic space adventure with an irreverent pop-culture sensibility. The music on this CD, taken from the show's first two seasons, perfectly captures the wild, exciting, anything-could-happen spirit of this inventive saga.

The first season's music is composed by the trio known as SubVision: Chris Neal, Toby Neal, and Braedy Neal. The second season's music is composed by Guy Gross. As a whole, the disc exemplifies the many moods and themes of the show, which is rich in action, romance, menace, heroism, silliness, and wonder.

The disc opens with the distinctive "Farscape" theme music, a funky and exciting composition with weird, alien-sounding vocals. There are many other standout selections: the cool alien dance music of "Tannot Grooves" (from the "Thank God It's Friday, Again" suite); the thrilling, militaristic "Pilot Arrives" (from the "The Way We Weren't" suite); the goofy-sounding "Vorc Arrives" (from the "Beware of Dog" suite); and more.

"Farscape" is a great show for many reasons: stunning visual effects, engaging characters, far-out plots, etc. But the outstanding music is certainly an integral component of the overall epic saga. This disc is essential for fans of sci-fi film and TV scores.
