This is a great product to use if you want conversational skills. I have many persian friends and I wanted to have some conversational skills to meet some iranians visiting from overseas. I have only completed 4 lessons ( there are 5 audio CDs with 2 lessons each on them) and I really impressed some natives who think I have more vocabulary than I really do. Its because this method teaches you conversational skills. You learn phrases, not individual words which makes it helpful. It is quick but repetitive. I would highly reccomend it.

I'm a retired foreign service officer who has experience with many kinds of language learning. The Pimsleur approach, in my view, does an excellent job of challenging you and yet reinforcing what you already half-know. Starting a new language, you need to focus on pronunciation and accent. These 5 CDs give you plenty of practice on these fundamentals. The diction is crisp. The vocabulary includes no extraneous words; just the ones you will inevitably need over and over again. Pimsleur does not coddle you. You need to be on your toes to respond, exactly as you would be in a real conversation in Iran. And there's the bonus of qualifying for Dari and Tajik at the same time, given their closeness to Farsi. I thoroughly enjoyed working on this minicourse, and it whetted my appetite for more.

I can't believe this product is (so far) actually working for me - I never thought I'd be able to pick up Farsi, but things are sticking! I like how each lesson incorporates the old phrases and vocab you used, blending it with the new things. I keep this set in my car - works great for long car rides, I feel twice as productive :).

Very good language program, along with the phrase books that I also purchased at other locations, I am on the way to speaking this fluently very soon. I put the discs on my Ipod also and can listen to them anytime, I also plan to work on all the dialects of the language. I also plan to learn all of the other language of the region. Thanks.

i was surprised at how well this method works ! I would highly reccomend pimsleur series, i wish I had this for other languages I have studied in the past.

my only complaint is that if they really want you to buy the full series, this 'teaser' 10 lesson set should be much cheaper. I didn't realize i was getting such a small slice of the entire program. You really learn to say a relatively small set of phrases. I would also expect that the "conversational" set, which has only 2 more languages, is even more of a rip off.

i purchased this program (the smallest/cheapest pimsleur set available) in order to just get my feet wet to learning DARI, as the actual DARI dialect program is not being released until mid-September...
will just buy the complete program and skip the basic and conversational packages...

I am a professional linguist (German translator and university teacher in linguistics). This is an excellent course. The speaker is native-level and the course progresses at just the right rate and intensity. Repitiion is excellent. Highly recommended.

It is a great way to learn new language. I bought this audio DC for my husband, he liked it.

I recently bought the Pimsleur basic Farsi (Persian) course. It exceeded my expectations in learning basic Persian. The lessons are simple & comprehensible, and the repetition allows you to learn basic phrases in a short period of time. However, this course is not for those who wish to write Persian, but it's very good for those seeking to get a grounding in the basic greetings and phrases a visitor may encounter while visiting Iran.

It is good for basic farsi. It doesn't have the written material to follow along but if you have good ear, you don't need it. Five stars for a good CD.
