If you don't know who Jean Rollin is..and are a fan of Gothic Horror...Get to know him. Fascination has to be my personal favorite. Simply put..It's a masterpiece of sensual and dark imagery. A torrid tale about a thief who ends up running from another group of robbers he double crossed, and hiding out in a chateaus. There he encounters two ladies in waiting, that seduce him only to keep him there until midnight when a group of empowered female cultists, who drink human blood for anemia, arrive. They begin a long and sexual game with the macho-unsuspecting male.
My main pleasure in this film is the script. In the beginning of the film the dialog is what you would expect, but once in the castle you begin to get this very sexy,playful manipulation between the 3 characters in which becomes more fragrant and intense as the film progresses, and has a surprise end speech that is really a moment in erotic thrillers.
they make so much bad film these days, I have to say that until I saw this film...I didn't know you could make a film this sweet,sexy, and naughty..and have it be art as well. You add Jean Rollin's surrealistic camera work and imagery, and you just have a masterpiece.
This film has not only educated me on difference between american film and world film, but showed me that you can mix eroticism,sex and macabre imagery,with no money...and make a breathtaking, stimulating and all around artistic fun film.
Wow. Ok hollywood..enough.

I'm an admirer of Jean Rollins work, and this film is the one which to me best represents his style. It succeeds in blending the sexual predator images of the more successful Hammer vampire movies, with the doomed romanticism of French cinema. The production values are low, presumably they operated on a very small budget, but as I was starting to experiment with my own low production films, I was inspired by how much it achieves in spite of its limitations.

The film is driven by a series of powerful images, notably the semi-naked girl wielding a scythe, and the odd bit of lesbian love action. As with all of Rollins best films, you get the feeling of getting a glimpse of, and being allowed to share, a very personal obsession.
