very cool to see the ants build tunnels...you do have to order the ants separately though!

Bought this for my science geek nephew. He loved it. Uses it for a night light.

My 9 year old daughter bought this as a replacement for a crab that past away after a few years. She tried catching ants from outside while awaiting the arrival of the carpenter ants that we ordered online after we got the kit. we caught a few different ants but they never did anything more than walk back and forth. when we got the carpenter ants...oh my... they went to work immediately. they say that the ants usually die after a month, its been 2 months now and not one dead one. all 25 that arrived are still alive and digging. lots of tunnels everywhere. My daughter cheered when they matched up tunnels clear across the display. My oldest daughters firends all teens decided to carry it to show someone else and shook it all up. the ants had to dig tunnels all over and they did without complaint :)
