5.0 out of 5 stars This is Great
This book is a great blend of history, factoids and advice, covering a wide spectrum of fashion from the go-go boot to the corset.
I have never discovered anything like this before and would deffinately recommend it to anyone interested in fashion, whether it is a fashion student or someone trying to improve the contents of their own closet.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great For Children
I bought this thinking it would be great reference in my alteration/custom sewing business, thinking it would give me re-design inspiration. I was disapointed, it is mainly a reference guide with the origin of clothing pieces (pencil skirt, capris, ect...)..Great for middle or high school children.....Gave it to my daughter!

5.0 out of 5 stars fashionistas alert, July 17, 2008
This review is from: Fashion 101: A Crash Course in Clothing (Paperback)
Fashion 101, is a must read for any person who wants to pursue a career in fashion, is really into fashion or is just dying to know how fashion trends were made, who made it hot and how to wear it. This book gives you a detailed idea of every fashion item from a jumper dress to espadrilles (a cross between a sandal and a wedge). It tells you when it was created, how people wore it, and how to rock it well. I absolutely loved this book, because there are so many items that I never knew about, for example, the peacoat originated from sailors as part of their costume. As well, I always thought skinny jeans was a very new trend, but it actually was rocked by the Ramones and the Beatles back in the 1960's. Fashion 101 goes in depth about every fashion trent and item and the history about it. There are so many clothes that I didnt even know about!

4.0 out of 5 stars I really love clothes, July 20, 2008

This review is from: Fashion 101: A Crash Course in Clothing (Paperback)
This book has given me a new perspective and puts a rich history into the things I wear everyday. A detailed clothing bible if you will, this book covers every type of fashion trend, including hot pants, all the way to every accesory or shoe one could want to know about. It gives hot new trends and old classic styles their names, talking about where things really originiated, making me feel more informed about fashion and even sound smarter! :) All in all this is a great book and a MUST have if you spend as much time as me choosing my outfit everyday!

3.0 out of 5 stars Ehh...ok, December 29, 2010

This book as decent, it's great if you're looking to know types of pants or types of collars, but I was hoping to learn more. Most of it consisted of things anyone would know. A platform shoe, a sports bra, a vest. Simple articles of clothing people wear all the time made this book very generic and not very imformative to someone aspiring to learn more about fashion and what makes it work. However, the one feature I loved was where it described who made it to begin with, and who made it hot. If you're looking for fashion history this book could be quite useful. Good luck, I hope you find what you are looking for.

This review is from: Fashion 101: A Crash Course in Clothing (Paperback)
Its Crazy to think about the fact that there is so much history in the world of clothing. This book gave me great insight to what a love of clothing styles came from and how/when they started. Great and Interesting read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple, informative and quick guide., August 17, 2010

Tweekee "Twee" (Buckeye, AZ, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fashion 101: A Crash Course in Clothing (Paperback)
I like this book. It is organized first by type(dresses, tops, coats, skirts etc) then each article of clothing has four sections along with a picture. What is looks like, who made it, who made it hot, and how to rock it. The history on the clothing is mostly accurate(She did get who created the little black dress wrong-Hint: It's not Coco Chanel). "The how to rock it" is a little...debatable. She recommends cutting some fabric off a prairie dress with scissors to update it and wearing it with something "unexpected, like fishnets or a studded hoodie." Or wearing a baby-doll dress with combat boots to toughen it up. But I'm sure there are some people that will like that kind of look. The good style advice was pretty obvious. "Wear a Cheongsam with up swept hair to show off it's collar"

This book was so fun to read and I loved knowing the different origins of different styles of clothing. It's really well researched and has so many different types of pants, skirts, tops, and dresses. The tips on how to wear specific piecces will definitely come in handy. There are even cute pics that help tell you what it looks like, since the book introduces new shoe and shirt styles that I have never seen before. It is a must-have for any fashionista!

Though this guide focused mainly on heloping those of the female persuasion, i still found it useful. Good diagrams and imaginative use of only two colors. An extremely useful book for either the fashion challenged or fashion bored. Buy it for new outlooks on old clothes.

5.0 out of 5 stars How much thought does one really put into what they wear each day?, June 15, 2008
This review is from: Fashion 101: A Crash Course in Clothing (Paperback)
How much thought does one really put into what they wear each day? "Fashion 101: A Crash Course in Clothing" is an examination of modern clothing styles and how they came about, claiming there's a story about how every piece of clothing came into existence. It also includes a look at how celebrities have seriously impacted modern fashion, and is enhanced with illustrations from Ariel Krietzman. "Fashion 101: A Crash Course in Clothing " is a must read for any aspiring fashion designer, and highly recommended for community library fashion shelves.
