Fantastic fashion drawing and design book,
By Rosemary Saunders "Rose" (New York, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fashion Artist: Drawing Techniques to Portfolio Presentation (Fashion Design Series) (Paperback)
This book has been really helpful and I will continue to use it throughout my fashion design course. It has shown me how to draw the fashion figure, and even faces and hands, really simply. I like the way it shows you how to draw different fashion figures, draw the clothing and then make fashion presentations from your artwork. Plus it has lots of cool examples of fashion drawings by different designers and illustrators. I would recommend this book to everyone who is interested in fashion design. It is really informative and inspiring!

I bought this book for my 12 year old daughter who is just getting into fashion. It is a great book for beginners -- she started creating beautiful outfits from the very start. It looks like so much fun I might give it a try myself!

Amazing Bang for the Buck,

For years, I've sketched fashion/outfits, automobiles, and architecture simply as a hobby. Because of schedule conflicts, proper classes to develop skills have never been possible. Naturally, I began looking for a "text book" that would help me to improve my proportion and shading skills as I've had the most difficulty with "human subjects".
After numerous purchases of everything from how-to books to actual text books, I can confidently say that Fashion Artist by Sandra Burke is exactly what I needed it to be. With clear examples, step by step instructions and lists of required materials, this book takes what can seem to be an overwhelming situation (figuring out proper limb placement and size plus contouring) and breaks it down into engaging, easy to retain information. As someone who appreciates all styles of illustration, I also enjoyed the variety of artwork used to showcase the amazing potential offered to a budding artist. Some of the "problem areas" that this book covers are hands and feet, facial features, and fabric rendering. Whether you're a fashion illustrator looking for a refresher, an artist wanting to expand, or simply someone who enjoys all things fashion, this book fits the bill. I highly recommend this book.

Title....Absolutely love it!,
By Lillian (LA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fashion Artist: Drawing Techniques to Portfolio Presentation (Fashion Design Series) (Paperback)
I absolutely love it!...It is full of cool, colorful fashion illustrations. It makes drawing the fashion figure so simple! I really like the details that go into each page in the book...it is easy to follow the step-by step drawing techniques or just be inspired to go for it by looking at all the other artists' work included in the book.
There is a great section on drawing flats, and although it focuses on women's wear, has excellent chapters on men, children, costume design and the Fashion Portfolio - these are really useful as they are not often covered in other books that I've seen.

I bought this book a while back based on the stars and reviews but was actually really disappointed. Why? If you go to art schools that push fashion design as a major that work with actual major clothing labels... the drawings you see being cranked out of the top schools do not look like this. I actually recommend Contemporary Fashion Illustration Techniques by Naoki Watanabe. I had a chance to actually look at it at the art store down the street from my art school which is cranking out fashion designers for the actual job market.
I teach drawing to students between 3rd grade on up to high school. I have been buying books to expose my students to the various art industries and what they are looking for now so they can get themselves a head start if they so choose such careers later in their lives. This book was perfect and great when if first came out, but things have changed.

I bought this book for my 16 yr old daughter who is an aspiring fashion designer. To get into design school & possibly qualify for a scholarship, she must prepare a portfolio. She expressed concern that her sketching skills would look amateurish so she asked for a book to help her.
This book shows in picture and text detail the supplies needed to do a project & an easy format to follow. She loved it and was so excited to have a guide to help her. This book not only helps in this regard, but has several sections that gives pointers on design elements and much more pertinent information. If you or someone you know is an aspiring fashion designer, do not hesitate to get this book. It will be a valuable tool that will be put t good use.

I wore holes in piles of paper trying to work up to the basic points so magnificently outlined in this book! It's like having an art teacher with you (without the snide remarks) to bring your abilities to the top.
If you are planning on studying fashion, or just doing it for fun, you need this book. Highly recommended!

The fashion drawing techniques and illustrations in this book are excellent, plus it gets you up to speed quickly by focusing on key points. It is well laid out and can be followed step by step or dipped into wherever you feel you need some help with particular aspects of your fashion drawing or designing. The illustration styles are varied and inspiring - it covers fashion templates, flats and presentations for womenswear, menswear, childrenswear and even costume design!
The chapters on figure drawing techniques have some excellent advice and examples of poses, and those tricky things like faces, hands and feet. The chapters on layouts, presentions, mood & design boards, and getting a design portfolio together concentrate on the main points with examples of artwork from designers and illustrators in the fashion industry. It is an excellent resource for those studying fashion or want to enter the fashion industry.

GREAT For Beginners and Those Who Have Experience,
By lauren Richardson "lauren" (Nashville, TN USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fashion Artist: Drawing Techniques to Portfolio Presentation (Fashion Design Series) (Paperback)
I'm wanting to become a fashion designer and i bought this book and i was amazed. it really teaches you how to draw fashion models (and people in general) in all different poses. it shows you so many different poses both with an actual person modeling the pose and then a block figure showing you how to draw it. after the structure is learned, it teaches you in a really easy way how to flesh it out, and then how to draw the clothes and how the clothes are supposed to look at folds and creases. if you like this book, i recommend Draw Fashion Models! by Lee Hammond, a great book that goes in depth into more poses and how you should draw the clothes and how they look when the arms are raised, when you're leaning on one hip, etc.
i really recommend buying this amazing book, it's straightforward and very helpful! |
