I can't speak highly enough for every page in this book,
By Marilise Flusser, former Fashion Coordinator ... (New York City) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fashion Careers (Plastic Comb)
This is the best manual I have ever read for job search. It is not only the absolute first and last word on getting a job in the fashion industry, it applies to all fields. Every type of possible resume necessary to get into the fashion field is included, with accurate names of companies that truly apply to each job. Tips provided include: a page of several hundred action verbs that can be used to pump up any fuzzy job descriptions such as "was in charge of" to "transformed", "reorganized", "consolidated", "established", etc. This one page was worth the whole book. Two other pages in the book list sample accomplishment statements that work universally for any job.

Not alot of bang for your buck,
By A Customer
This review is from: Fashion Careers (Plastic Comb)
I purchased this book expecting a decent sized paperback. I was very disappointed to see that it was spiral bound with a laminated cover and pages that looked like they had been xeroxed. The content of the book is OK if you already have a job in the industry, but if you are looking for something entry level like myself, you will be disappointed. My advice? Don't waste your money, you can find all of the information in this book on the internet.

Fashion Careers has been an extremely useful tool for graduating seniors and an excellent reference for those seeking new opportunities in fashion and related industries. In these ever changing times within fashion retailing, product development and manufacturing , this book allows individuals the ability to analyze their strengths and weaknesses and ultimately develop a resumé that will help land them an appropriate position in their field of interest. The workbook is particulrly helpful, in that it allows the opportunity to xerox and reuse worksheets as one evolves through their chosen career path. I recommend this book to all individuals thinking about or actively involved in a job search.

I purchased this book after being downsized as a retail buyer. I used the book to help me focus on what my skills were, and to give me tips for writing a punchier resume. The book was easy to use and yielded great results. I am working again, this time in sales and earning a higher salary. This is a book that will stay on my bookshelf!

Job Search Primer,
By Barbara Kolsun (New York, NY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fashion Careers (Plastic Comb)
This is the best all-around job search primer I have ever read, filled with sample resumes, worksheets to assist the reader in identifying skills, goals and priorities. The authors, all women, are seasoned veterans of the fashion industry, with which I have been a lawyer for many years. Every college career development office and job search office should have a copy of this book. It tells the reader exactly how to draft a resume and includes a variety of real ones to study. It helps the reader to analyse the issue of starting her own business. It supplies an exhaustive list of websites and periodicals listing jobs in the fashion industry. It addresses the interview and how to answer difficult questions like "Why did you lose your job?" It focuses on networking, which all successful women know is the way to get a job and gives a step-by-step lesson on how to network. As a veteran of the fashion business and as a woman who has reinvented myself professionally over and over, I can say that this is the best book on finding a job in the fashion industry I have seen. It is also a great general resource on the job search process.

Superb College Text for Fashion Career Planning Courses,
By Dixie A. Towers, M.B.A. (Brooks College, Long Beach, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fashion Careers (Plastic Comb)
What a joy to find an industry specific text for use in "Career Planning" courses for college students majoring in Fashion Merchandising and/or Fashion Design. While there is no shortage of "Career Planning" texts or workbooks per se, this is the only one we have seen that so perfectly fits the requirements of students seeking appropriate Fashion Industry related examples of everything from writing an effective resume, to cover letters, to interview techniques, to thank you letters following an interview. The workbook exercises have proven especially useful in helping students identify and focus on specific areas of career opportunities within the Fashion Industry, as well as where and how they might begin their job search/careers. The text also includes useful reference lists of Fashion Industry websites and professional organizations. As a Fashion Merchandising and Career Planning instructor, I would highly recommend this book for consideration as a required text for Fashion Merchandising and Fashion Design students.

By Lin J (Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fashion Careers: The Complete Job Search Workbook, 4th edition (Spiral-bound)
The new edition of "Fashion Careers - 4th Edition (2008) is must read! This self-directed workbook helped me develop a job strategy that really worked. I improved my resume to make it a more powerful marketing tool and found that the updated research section enabled me to search industry by industry to target the right type of networking contacts. Finally, the section on interviewing techniques and questions was invaluable in my preparation for upcoming interviews. My answers have become more complete and natural, and as a result I have much greater confidence.

This book is very good. Quick and easy to follow, yet comprehensive enough to guide you through all aspects of the job hunt, particularly as it applies to the fashion industry. Whether you're just beginning your career or you're back in the job market, this book makes the process a lot less daunting. The approach the authors take is clear and concise. And through key questions, the workbook helps you to clarify your approach. Highly recommended.
