About the Author

Bob Gardner has been involved in the Barbie world for a number of years. As a five member staff of Barbie Bazaar, Bob has authored articles on Barbie Exclusives and more recently done feature articles on Mattel's designers and staff. Each time Bob interviewed employees at El Segundo he would learn more information on the dolls, their background, and their creation. All this he shares with you in this book.

Bob has been a California resident for the past 16 years. He left upstate New York, where his sisters used to store their Barbie dolls in the attic, which they brought with them when the family moved here. I guess you could say he grew up with Barbie. His sisters Laurie & Lynda were always dragging them out to play. Then there were Kathy's girls, Marsha, Melissa & Michelle & Marianne. They had dolls too. Bob just couldn't get away from dolls.

Bob worked in the clothing industry for years and has an eye for fashion. He worked for actress Susan Sullivan from CBS's Falcon Crest as a publicist. More recently he buys sells and trades at Barbie doll shows, has a space at Len & Kathy's across from Hobby City in Anaheim, CA, and can be found selling at Barbara Peterson's Shows at the Disney Hotel in Anaheim. He enjoys traveling, history, writing, his family, and playing "Barbie", not necessarily in that order!
