I'm a big fan of Project Runway (though I didn't discover the show till the middle of the 3rd season)
I always wondered how they could make such beautiful clothes from just a sketch. Well now I know! You can tell the book took lots of time, blood, sweat and tears to put together. Beautiful inside and out. Love th flocking on the cover.
This book is not only great eye candy (the photography is fabulous) it is very informative. Gives great advice to us amateur seamstresses. I love sewing! But want to go beyond Simplicity and Vogue patterns.

I hope people buy this book and not just people who know Daniel V from Project Runway because it is informative, fun and inspirational. What more do you want for a book. The book itself is gorgeous - the kind of book only a person who loves design could create. I love the cover. It's covered with a velvet-like fabric that just makes you want to curl up with it on a rainy day with a cup of tea. The pictures of New York are beautiful and Daniel's not to hard on the eyes either. But the book is so much more than just another coffee table book.

So don't stop at just giving it a quick read and looking at the pictures! Daniel has create a real primer for the people interested in fashion, fashion design and marketing. Whether just starting out, a home sewer or just want to know more about clothes, Daniel walks us through the creative process and challenges the reader to try new techniques and to open their eyes to new inspirations. There are great interviews peppered through the book from both Project Runway celebrities and fashion insiders.

I'm a home sewer and knitter with an interest in becoming more creative. Reading Fashion Inside Out has already encouraged me to start carrying a notebook and a camera. My current projects are looking better and I'm approaching new projects differently. I strongly recommend this book.

FASHION INSIDE OUT: FROM INSPIRATION TO RUNWAY AND BEYOND is a treasure trove pairing fashion images with fashion history and insider observations. From where fashion begins to how styling works and how trends are created, interviews with designers, producers and industry pros makes for an outstanding presentation highly recommended for any college-level fashion collection and many a general public library.

If you've ever been curious as to how a garment comes together or how a fashion line is developed, this wonderful book inspired by Project Runway, is full of pictures and accompanying text that will have you fascinated with the process. Daniel Vosovic does a wonderful job of letting you be a part of fashion from that spark of inspiration to the stroll down the runway.

Vosovic writes in an easily understandable style. For instance in the chapter on Execution he likens creating a garment to architectural structures. "In architecture, the base on which a structure is built determins its strength, style and longevity. The same is true for fashion." The chapter than starts with the base (creating an original pattern) to the final build. There is an interview with Ardeana Kirckof to back up the prose as well as tips that sum up the chapter. Sprinkled in between are lots of wonderful pictures! Each chapter is similar and a true delight to read!

A friend of mine had this book, and he let me borrow it. I do not watch "Project Runway" anymore, although I did catch the first season. Therefore, I am not familiar with Daniel Vosovic, although, in these pages, he comes across as a very pleasant and candid young man, not what one would necessarily expect in such a profoundly narcissistic industry. The construction of the book was interesting, with stylized, crushed velvet style boards. Usually, this kind visual of appeal in a mass market offering is, to me, a danger sign for shoddy construction values (i.e. Madonna's "Sex"), but the copy I flipped through seemed solid enough.

I cannot comment on the content of the work since, as I mentioned, I know little of design or sewing. I can say that while the prose was, I thought, sometime flat and sometime a little too "cute," it accomplished its main objective in communicating the design process in a comprehensible, step by step narrative I found easy to understand. At times, it was actually engaging when the tricks behind some of fashion's "illusions" were revealed. Since I am, as I said, a complete ignoramus in this area, the fact that Vosovic came across clearly speaks well of his tutorial skill. So, I would surmise that any beginning fashionistas out there would be wise to pick up a copy.

The photography was, though, I thought, boring and overdone. For the tone of the work, I think a more "mannequin" style of presentation would have been more effective. And although very pretty, I simply was not taken with the photos and did not find them especially memorable. They are assembled well, however, and printed as they are on higher end gloss paper, they make for a very pleasing presentation.

As to the other writings in the book, while Tim Gunn's introduction was, I thought, avuncular and warm, but candid about his industry, I found the other commentaries a complete waste of space and a needless distraction from Vosovic's much more engaging observations about himself and his own efforts to begin his career in fashion. Also, they had the ring of more opinion pieces than the practical advice Vosovic strove for. While the words of the market are, of course, something to heed for anyone who wishes to be a success in this brutal industry, I thought there was something of a rhetorical disconnect I found a little jarring and nothing more careful editing would not have repaired.

But, for the aspiring designer or tailor/seamstress, or just someone who appreciates the illusions "fashion" markets, I think this book would be an excellent investment, and I recommend it accordingly.

Having had the opportunity to interview Daniel Vosovic for our radio show, I can say that he is not only interested in his own love of fashion but making sure that we all get to appreciate it as well. In his book FASHION INSIDE OUT he goes even further by outlining the the road map he has followed in order to share that love with the world.

As with any other profession it all begins with Passion, and to help Daniel express this to all of us he has assembled notables in the industry to share their own thoughts on how their careers have been shaped and the role that hard work and being innovative played in their getting what they wanted.

As someone who is not a designer I read this book with excited interest because it is really a plan that anyone in the creative community can appreciate and use in their own lives. We are all in the business of making the world a better place by what we do, and sometimes we just need that little push to help us get to the next level. If nothing else, FASHION INSIDE OUT will encourage you to keep moving forward, never knowing where the road ahead might lead.

This book offers a behind the scenes view of a young fashion designer. The photography is beautiful and complements the text admirably.

I would advise anyone, not just someone in fashion to read this! We all lack motivation and inspiration at times but Daniel really pushes you to open your eyes and dig deep to regain that inspiration. Other than being an amazing designer, he is an amazing person, and an awesome book writer!
