Good for Victorian era fashion ideas, January 26, 2007
This review is from: Fashion Paper Dolls from Godey's Lady's Book, 1840-1854 (Dover Victorian Paper Dolls) (Paperback)
This is an appealing publication, and though I can't comment on the accuracy of the fashions, I trust Dover to have done their research. People interested in period fashion or those who want to look right for a party, Dickens-era fair, or theatrical performance can get many ideas. The card stock is sturdy and there are 7 paper dolls -- women, young women, and even a young girl -- with multiple outfits for each one. Plus, the name of the proper character is printed on the tabs of the dresses; however, with all the ruffles from the era, it might be hard to cut out the dresses precisely!
A fun idea is to cut out faces of your friends (or celebrities) from photographs and put them over the dolls' faces, which can make fun table decorations for any "guest of honor" party.

My favorite paper dolls as a child, February 27, 2011
This review is from: Fashion Paper Dolls from Godey's Lady's Book, 1840-1854 (Dover Victorian Paper Dolls) (Paperback)
I had these paper dolls when I was a little girl in the '70s and they were my favorites. I forgot about them for years until I saw them in a bookstore and purchased them for nostalgia's sake. They were educational as well as fun to play with - each doll has a set of clothes for suffragette work.
