BUY!! This book is a LIFESAVER!,

This review is from: Fashion For Profit (Paperback)
This book is a life saver! If you have ANY questions about starting your own line...BUY THIS BOOK! It covers everything from A to Z but with precise detail. The appendixes show great examples of different forms and documents that you would need in order to be successful. Most of the other fashion books are too basic and lacking in detail, but this book definitely delivers. It beats all my other fashion books hands down. (This is my first Amazon review- I normally read 'em but never write 'em but this book is worth it!)

Okay, but there's better out there,
This review is from: Fashion For Profit (Perfect Paperback)
I was considering buying this book until I checked it out from the library. I read it book cover to cover- and while it does do a good job of addressing the ins and outs of the fashion business, I felt that The Fashion Designer Survival Guide by Mary Gehlhar is a better value (and cheaper too!). Gehlhar's book covers 95% of the same info and also includes interviews with other designers.
This book was also riddled with misspellings and seemed hastily put together. While its not a bad resource per se, if you're only going to buy one book on the subject, I would choose a different one.

Bloopers and Sources,

This review is from: Fashion For Profit (Perfect Paperback)
This book is wonderful for providing examples, samples and lists and lists of resources that will be enormously helpful. However, its value is diminished by terribly obvious typos and spelling mistakes. Can't believe it was proofread by anyone. Takes away from the professionalism and makes you questions things. Too bad. I will keep this as a reference book.

Fashion for Profit is the Fashion Bible!,
This review is from: Fashion for Profit (Revised Edition with Retail Chapter) (Paperback)
I advise anyone who is trying to come out with a line to read this book and purchase the DVD! This book is a great reference guide - something good to always keep on stand by. Very useful if you want to do things right!

Too bad.,

Like the other reviewers have stated, this book is FULL with typos and all kinds of mistakes. I have not read the main competitor to it, The Fashion Designer Survival Guide, so take this review as it is.
The information is GOOD and for someone who isn't in the industry, you will find a lot of things you had no idea about. The appendices are good, but they are US-only. Everything that is legal is US-only, but it's understandable: you wouldn't start a business without an attorney and a bookkeeper. The later chapters start getting smaller and smaller, and while this is understandable, as you don't really have a lot to write about Selling on the Internet, for example, they feel extremely old for someone tech-savvy. They feel hastily put together, but I might have felt this because I was eager to finish the book. The main bad point that caused me to rate this a 3/5 is the fact that it recommends for a new company to start in the betterwear segment, yet all the examples and steps for producing garments are better suited to the likes of NIKE, not some premium label like Givenchy.

This truly is one of the very few books that covers almost anything a start-up business person would need. My one complaint is that there is not really a "one-of-a-kind" chapter focusing on working with individual clients, but if you're looking for an outline on EVERYTHING to cover before diving headfirst into the fashion business, look no further. Two thumbs up.

best book for starting your own line,
This review is from: Fashion For Profit (Paperback)
I got this book today and I am delighted. the book tells you exactly how to set up your own line and how to sell it in details. this book is just exactly what I need. I also have some other books for starting fashion business but I'd say this book is the best and it is more focussed on the business side of fashion.

While far better than The Fashion Designer Survival Guide, this book is rampant with just as many (if not more) spelling, grammar and syntax errors which can be quite distracting. I mean, how hard would it have been to get a proof-reader?
The information in the book still makes it a hands-down best choice.

This review is from: Fashion For Profit: A Professional's Complete Guide to Designing, Manufacturing, & Marketing a Successful Line and Retailing (Paperback)
I am a partner in a new line of women's golfware that debuted to the public in January. We have been editing our line and are presently having our samples made. We have a rudimentary business plan, and this book has given us the knowledge to create and expand on our plan and then some. We have been given a wealth of knowledge from a practical strandpoint to move forward with confidence and assurance.
