Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 3-6–Kiki Kittie and her friends experience a fashion emergency when their school principal forces them to wear uniforms, and Kiki&'s alter ego, the superhero Fashion Kitty, must come to the rescue. In the meantime Kiki has to deal with sibling rivalry and conflict with close friends. Girls will love the fun cartoon-style art, the graphic-novel format, and the soft color palette. The activities at the end, including paper dolls to cut out and dress, are an extra treat but might be a problem in libraries. Fashion Kitty will likely appeal to fans of Jennifer Holm and Matthew Holm&'s &Babymouse& series (Random).–Mari Pongkhamsing, St. Perpetua School, Lafayette, CA

More About the Author

Here are some things I have learned:

Using comics can be a good way to tell a story.
Fed Ex envelopes are handy for filing stuff.
Revising is surprisingly satisfying, but not always easy.
Some things are fun to look at, but not fun to own.
A day can be long.
A day can be short.
And sometimes one little thing can change a whole day. Like the time I got the good parking spot outside Trader Joes - good day!

Best wishes to you, for a good one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for reluctant readers and those who love graphic novels, March 16, 2009
Fashion Kitty's biggest challenge is school uniforms so ugly they defy fashion adjustment. Her fight for fashion freedom leads her to some daring school encounters in this two-color graphic novel of a too-hip kitty's battle for fashion freedom in her school, perfect for reluctant readers and those who love graphic novels.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fashion Kitty is back!!!, January 7, 2009
Another great book in this series. If you enjoyed the first two in the Fashion Kitty series, you won't be disappointed. My 2nd grader loved it, as did I. A fun read for kids and adults alike. The pictures are great, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fashion Kitty Rules, March 11, 2011
School uniforms! What a drag. Unfortunately, they don't quite count as a fashion emergency (just questionable public policy), so superhero Fashion Kitty can't come to the rescue. There is one kitty who is committing a major fashion faux pas - flip flops with her uniform? And yet, when Fashion Kitty tries to help out, the kitty politely refuses. What is going on? And will school ever be fashionable again?

My daughter (who is much younger than the suggested reading age) and I love Fashion Kitty, and this book is no exception. The illustrations are cute, the dialogue is crisp and funny, the story zips along, and the message - while fashionable - is also valuable.
