Hollywood's beautiful people turn out for the launch party of Bonsai, a trendy new line of Japanese-inspired ready-to-wear. Husband-and-wife production team Ava and Frank Bernstein hope to get a commercial deal out of the swanky soiree. But the party turns out to be murder with the body of a model is found stabbed and strangled.
Later, in a bizarre twist of events that could only happen in Hollywood, Ava and Frank manage to score the deal of their career: producing a martial arts movie starring Japanese megastar Nobuo Wei -- who also happens to be the victim's father.
Yet the real drama unfolds offscreen, in a torrid soap opera of broken hearts, dirty secrets and big money. As the bodies pile up faster than film on the cutting room floor, Ava races to find the killer and get their very first movie into the can. Because "dying" can mean many things in Hollywood. And Ava doesn't care to experience any of them.
