Book Description

April 14, 2005
Do clothes really make the woman? For Jordan Devereaux, President of Devereaux Designs, the answer is most certainly yes. Having taken over the upscale women's clothing company from her father, she lives and breathes high fashion design. Although the company was her father's baby and she knows she'll support his dream no matter what, catering to the wealthy and elite feels empty to Jordan. What she really wants is a way to give back to the community, to fill her heart with something meaningful. Being the eldest of five in a close-knit, supportive family, she knows exactly how lucky she is, so when she tries to volunteer her time at a runaway shelter and stumbles onto a family in crisis, she finds her calling. Then a friend in need asks for her help and with her private investigator experience, she jumps at the chance. Is it nature or nurture? Jack Morgan really had no answer for that question, though he and his adoptive mother asked it often enough during his youth. At age fourteen, the question is suddenly moot because he is once again left alone in life. He finds his way into adulthood on his own and after a failed attempt at a long-term relationship, Jack decides it is easiest to live alone, to be alone. But a spur-of-the-moment decision and a chance meeting changes his life, bringing him closer than ever to his deepest desire and his darkest fear.

More About the Author

I was born in and have lived in suburban Maryland all my life, moving only three times and even then, less than half an hour away each time. Growing up, I was the youngest and only girl in a family of four siblings, suffering mightily and for many long years under the hands of my three older brothers. To escape, I locked myself away in my bedroom with books, books, and more books! I am and have been a voracious reader of romance novels for as long as I can remember...even before I was writing my own stories as a pre-teen.

At 11 years old, I started my writing hobby with poetry, then began writing "short" romantic stories at about 12. Although I always wanted to be a writer, I found myself instead working with computers. I was in the computer industry for more years than I want to remember, first as an amateur and then as an expert (of sorts).

My husband and I met online (before online dating was even a glimmer in some internet boomer's eye), and we knew each other for eight years before we got engaged and married. Even now, after more than eighteen years together, we are best friends, and he is one of my biggest supporters. We live close to both our families and spend as much time with them as possible. We have spent recent years in our single family home, purchased partially for the large yard that our dog thinks is her own personal park.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Fashionable PI Review, June 9, 2006
This review is from: The Fashionable P.I. (Paperback)
Jordan was something else. I was definitely feeling her. Sometimes all the money in the world does not fill up your soul and you have to do something to help others to make your self spiritually whole. That was Jordan. Jordan was a brunette with unique grey colored eyes. She could easily grace the cover of Lane Bryant magazine with her voluptuous body.

Born to the newly richest family in the Pennsylvania community, Jordan Devereaux is the CEO of The House of Devereaux, where they make clothes for the upper class. She also helps to locate runaways for people who could probably never afford to wear the clothes her company creates. She charges a tenth of what any other P.I. would charge because she is not doing it for the money.

Jordan is helping a friend, Val, locate her brother who was orphaned at birth when their parents were killed in a car accident. Val discovers that at the time of death, her mother was pregnant and now wants to find the sibling that was unknown to her. Val was only two and then placed in foster care when her parents died. She has no idea what could have happened to her brother. Jordan finds Jack, Val's long lost brother, and more than she bargained for.

She tells her sister Alison about her secret Private Investigators job and then the drama begins when her sister stands in for her in a case where she has to scour the rough Maryland projects hunting for a runaway teenager.

I give this book a four because I was left with questions at the end.
