About the Author

Peggy Wiedman Casper is a nurse, a court reporter, mother of three daughters, author of numerous articles on dolls and a doll collector since she was a child. Her love of dolls is interwoven with a love of the fashions created for them. Influenced by her mother who was a fine seamstress and a doll maker, Peggy Casper began designing her own doll clothes at age eight. As a collector she directed her interest toward dolls who served as models for the fashions of particular periods-such as the "Biedermeier" chinas for clothes of the 1840s, parians for the 1850s and 1860s, papier-mache and bisque fashion dolls for the 1870s to the turn of the century and composition dolls including Shirley Temple for the 1930s.

From the time Peggy Casper purchased her first Terri Lee in 1951 for a daughter, Terri Lee has been her favorite "modern" doll. She visited the factory in 1954, and in 1980 when she realized the Terri Lee was becoming a collectible, she began using her 30 years of genealogical experience to trace the background of the Lee family and to search out family members. Her expertise in court records helped her to unravel the tangled legal history of the corporation. In 1981 she seriously began collecting Terri Lee dolls and wrote her first Terri Lee book in 1982. INSIDE FLAP: This is the definitive encyclopedic account of the many Terri Lee doll models and faces produced during their span of production between 1946 and the early 1960s. This pictorial account gives much new information on who made them, where they were produced and unravels the tangled history of the Terri Lee Company.

The marvelous costumes created for Terri Lee are pictured and actual patterns of some of them are included with complete instructions for making them. Many of these outfits set the fashion for their era.

A combination historical account of Terri Lee, identification guide and price guide, this book is both entertaining and informative and is a must for every lover of fashion dolls of the 1950s.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Early Terri Lee Research Book, July 11, 2010
This review is from: Fashionable Terri Lee Dolls (Hardcover)
The history and detail shown in this book is amazing. If you want to learn the history and see original factory pictures this book will be just what you are looking for. Most of the pictures are in black and white but this book is necessary to the understanding of Terri Lee. There is no current complete listing of Terri Lee outfits and this book will not provide that but it will give you hints for identification of outfits.
