Colorful Collection of Fast Mover Pix!, May 23, 2009
This review is from: Fast Jet Fighters 1948-1978 (Paperback)
In many ways, the years covered by Martin Bowman's book were glory years for military fighters. Dozens of innovative, pioneering and downright awesome designs were put into service in air forces around the world. Then too those 'fast movers' were painted in colorful, exciting paint schemes, the like of which we will never see again. FAST JET FIGHTERS, 1948-1978, published by MBI Publishing in 2001, is a marvelous photographic tribute to those long-ago fighter aircraft.
Within the book's 112 pages, fighter buffs will find a smorgasbord of Free World fighters. Included in the fighters covered are: USAF P-80s, F-105s and F-15s; ADC F-106s; USN F9Fs and F-8s; USMC Skyknights; X-planes like the X-1E and Skystreak; RAF Javelins and Hunters; FAA Scimitars; RNAF F-104s; GAF F-86s; German Navy Sea Hawks; JASDF F-4s; HAF RF-84s; SAAF Mirages; French Naval Air Service Venoms; RCAF CF-101s; and so on. Many of the photos are full page and are well-captioned. Photo quality varies but most are quite good. The shots themselves come from manufacturers, government sources or individuals.
Fighter enthusiasts will love FAST JET FIGHTERS, 1948-1978. It's great eye-candy; a visual treat for anyone loving fast movers. Recommended.
