Product Description

Original soundtrack to this 2011 motion picture, the fifth installment in the Fast & The Furious franchise. The soundtrack includes a mix of Latin and Hip Hop music inspired by the film's setting in Brazil. It features brand new track 'Furiously Dangerous' by Ludacris created especially for the film. It also includes new remix of 'How We Roll' by Latin superstar Don Omar featuring Busta Rhymes (who has been getting attention recently for his collaboration with Chris Brown and Lil Wayne on the best-selling Brown track 'Look At Me Now') created especially for the film.

Review

The fifth installment in the Fast & Furious film franchise is set in Brazil, which provides the reasoning behind this soundtrack album full of reggaeton and rhythmic Latin tracks. Don Omar and Ludacris appear in the movie, alongside stars Vin Diesel and Paul Walker, so it's only natural that the rappers also contribute music, including Omar's "How We Roll [Fast Five Remix]," featuring Busta Rhymes, Reek da Villian, and J-Doe, and Ludacris' "Furiously Dangerous" featuring Slaughterhouse and Claret Jai. But most of the music is provided by reggaeton acts like Marcelo D2. Score composer Brian Tyler chips in with three appropriately driven tracks, "Assembling the Team," "Mad Skills," and "Fast Five Suite." The goal here is to accompany a picture that, as usual, is packed with driving sequences involving flashy cars, beautiful, scantily clad women, and muscled men. That goal is accomplished with this beat-heavy music and the gruff, aggressive Latin rapping. -- AllMusic.com, William Ruhlmann

This is a great soundtrack to one of the most anticipated movies of the season.

You don't need to know all the lyrics to know great music all you need to do is listen to the beat and let everything else go.

I will only recommend to people who like different kind of music to have this in their collection.

Fast 5 is a high-energy compilation with more variety than the other soundtracks from the Fast and the Furious franchise.

There are only two rap tracks purely in English on this album, but both deliver. The album intro, "How We Roll" features Busta Rhymes, J-Doe, Reek da Villain and Don Omar on the hook. The most interesting inclusion in the soundtrack is Furiously Dangerous, a Ludacris cut with up-and-coming songstress Claret Jai singing the hook. The track also features Slaughterhouse, the rap supergroup consisting of Crooked I, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz and Royce da 5'9". If you're a Budden fan, you'll definitely love the 16 bars that Joey Jumpoff delivers.

This soundtrack marks the third album that composer Brian Tyler has contributed to in the Fast franchise. Tyler produced three instrumental tracks for the score, which range from cinematic to industrial rock.

I'm personally a big Don Omar fan, and like Brian Tyler, this is the third Fast film soundtrack that he appears on. His track Danza Kuduro was an obvious choice for the soundtrack, as it was an infectious hit single back in August of 2010 when it first dropped.

But what impressed me the most about this album was the inclusion of the Portuguese-language urban tracks from Brazil. There are five Brazilian cuts total, all with terrific beats, ranging from rap to Brazilian Funk. I was surprised to find the 2003 track "Carlito Marrón" by Bahia artist Carlinhos Brown, as the song's style always reminded me of Cuban son music.

If you were really digging the soundtrack for 2 Fast 2 Furious, don't expect that much American rap on this album. But if you're open to new things, you should definitely cop this CD, as Brazil has long been putting out hot urban tracks. The most diverse of the Fast franchise soundtracks so far, and probably my favorite.

I expected this soundtrack to be a bit better than it was, as the soundtrack was a strength of the movie. However, there are a few tracks that are flat out too irritating to listen to (Ludacris' song would've been great if not for the annoying female voice whining "furiously dangerous") and only a couple that I genuinely enjoy. Some are just filler background music tracks that don't grate the nerves but really are nothing special. I had hoped for more of Don Omar and some quality latin inspired sound, but there isn't much of that to be found here. Snag it cheap, if you can; otherwise, I'd say this is a pass.
