5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the Best
This is, by and large, my favorite CD by Spyro Gyra. Every piece on it is great work. If you don't have Fast Forward in your jazz collection, you need to get it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Instrumental Defintion But Middle of the Road Melodies
Fast Forward is another pleasing recording by Spyro Gyra. The lush sounds of the saxaphones, xylophones, guitars, keyboards, and special effects really soothe the soul. In addition, there is good balance between these instruments as one musician does not hog the spotlight on this release.

This is by far my most favouite album from Spyro Gyra. It is benchmark in which all other Spyro Gyra albums should be judged on. I think this album reflect a perfected style which has resulted from years of hard work. A must have for all you Spyro Gyra fans out there!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A review of Spyro Gyra's Fast Forward., April 28, 2003
This review is from: Fast Forward (Audio CD)
Fast Forward is a very good Spyro Gyra album. It was released in 1990. This cd would rank in my top 6 favorite Spyro Gyra albums of all time. All 10 songs have great beats and are great Spyro Gyra playing.

My top 3 favorite tracks off of this cd would probably be 1,5, and 7. Bright Lights is a nice song with great playing by Dave and a good organizational manner to it. Speak Easy is a classic Spyro Gyra song, and has a mysterious type of feel to it. 4MD is also another one of their best songs off of this album. It means for Miles Davis. All of the songs on here are terrific early 90's Spyro Gyra. It also has a nice vocal part in the tenth song.

Fast Forward is a nice, somewhat forgotten Spyro Gyra cd. It is well worth the buy, seeming of how it can be hard to find sometimes. Thank you for taking the time and generosity to read my review.

The songs on this release are a bit less defined. Whereas the styles vary from jam oriened tunes to easy listening jazz, few of them have very memroable hooks. Ocean Parkway and Para Ti Latino probably have the most memorable melodies. However, other tracks focus on incorporating too many ideas without developing any of them significantly.

A good pleasing listen especially as background music. However, the lack of consistent memorable song structure makes it fall notably short of their best release, Morning Dance.

I bought this the day it was released when I was 13 years old. This is my favorite Spyro Gyra album of all time. Bright Lights is the best on this album. Why would a 13 year old buy this album you may ask? Growing up in NYC and being exposed to Bob James, The Crusaders, Chuck Mangione and CD 101.9, it's easier to understand. If you're a Spyro Gyra fan and you don't have this cd, you've been dropping the ball for 21 years now, get it ASAP!!

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite Spyro Gyra record, great recording, April 7, 2007
This review is from: Fast Forward (Audio CD)
I am a songwriter/producer/engineer etc. and this is one of the records I use to test sound systems for clarity and low end. Great sounding record. The songs and the playing are stellar. I love most of what this great band has done over the years and this one is different from the others in it's striving for a decidedly different approach. That's what makes this band great, they seem to still sound like themselves, but stretch and try different things on every record they do. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous 1980's Spyro Gyra, May 21, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Fast Forward (Audio CD)
If you liked Point of View and Rites of Summer, you will love this CD. To me the late 80's were the high point for Spyro Gyra. They had a refined, tight, jazzy sound. They are still great, but the additions of vocal numbers and mainstream "smooth jazz" influences have taken their toll. Listen to Fast Forward a few times and it will get keep getting better and better.

2.0 out of 5 stars Is there light at the end of the tunnel?, December 15, 2000

Here again as with "Rites of Summer", we have a CD with one great piece, "Ocean Parkway", hence the two star rating instead of just one. The rest are unmemorable at best and a far cry from the awesome melodies of "Morning Dance", "Catching the Sun" and "Ingognito".

Advice: Fast Forward to their follow up CD, "Three Wishes". This is somewhat of an improvement but doesn't come close to measuring up to their early work.
