Lives Up to It's Name,

This review is from: Fast, Fun & Easy Book Cover Art: Add a Quilted Fabric Touch to Binders, Scrapbooks, Journals & More (Paperback)
This is one of my all time favorite sewing books and it DOES live up to it's name. Fast, fun and EASY! I made two covers within the first week of getting the book.
The instructions are detailed, concise and easily understood, even by me and I'm a self-taught, novice. Best things about this book are that the instructions allow you to cover ANY book you want from checkbooks, journals to cookbooks, paperbacks, EVERYTHING. I absolutely LOVE this book! Also, for other "hoarders" like me, who can't bear to get rid of the bigger scraps of fabric I have left from other projects, not to worry! You can easily incorporate those scraps into fabulous designs! If I sound like I'm gushing, I AM! I can see myself using this book for years and years to come without getting tired of it. The book details the supplies needed to get started but I found I already had almost all of them including a mat and rotary cutter, glue gun, etc. The only downside and it's not much of one is that the covers are finished using a satin stitch on the edges which can be a bit tedious but it looks SO GREAT when you're done. I even added some metal charms I had floating around in my button box. The sky's the limit with this book and I found it really stimulated my creativity. This one's a keeper!

If you love fabric and are looking for something fun and different to do with it, this is a book well worth getting. The instructions are clear and the options for covers is diverse. You can cover everything from a simple 3 ring binder (a lot better looking than your standard plastic) to a daytimer type binder. The embellishments are limited only by your imagination altho many suggestions are offered in the book. I had a couple of confusing moments but that might be because I do not have a sewing background. Once I played with what I thought the instruction meant, I was fine. Illustrations are very good.

I recently purchased this book and it came in better than expected condition from the sellar. I have made one of the projects (a quilted cover for a binder) and it turned out just great. The instructions are well laid out with photos and clear written directions. I used binding for the edges instead of satin stitching although I think this would be nice also. Although this is an older book, it's one of those timeless classics you will look at time and time again. You can easily make some unique gifts for your family and friends. This book is cool and well worth the money! |
