Editorial Reviews

Review

(The Promotion Point Accelerator) . . . is simple in its concept. Morales has collected his own experience and laid it out for any recruit or veteran soldier, everything from how to self-enroll . . . to tips on speeding your paperwork through the mail. His book shows samples of soldier records - those with courses and those without. With a quick glance, the records of the soldier with several courses under his belt looks much more impressive than his peer who took no courses . . . Many good soldiers just don't know how to play the game, leaving the promotion points vulnerable to soldiers of lesser quality who are better in touch with the rules of the game. -- European edition of The Stars & Stripes newspaper, 7 April 1996

(The Promotion Point Accelerator) is the instruction manual for (Army) correspondence course and subcourse enrollments. -- European edition of The Stars & Stripes newspaper, 12 February 1996

Army correspondence courses are an excellent way for soldiers, especially those assigned to remote duty sites, to increase their promotion points and earn . . . college credits. Coursework ranges from the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS)-related to basic soldiering to leadership studies. And the subject matter varies from psychology to missile maintenance to mathematics. The 350 courses in ACCP consist of a series of 2,500 subcourses. Soldiers can enroll in courses or subcourses, depending on their educational needs. Seventy percent of the courses and subcourses are targeted for sergeants and below, according to the Army Training Support Center at Fort Eustis, Virginia, where ACCP is headquartered. -- The Army Times, 29 July 1996

From the Publisher

The second edition of the The Promotion Point Accelerator has been revised to include Internet enrollment information, new e-mail and Web site addresses for school proponents, and a description of the new college credit-producing Army correspondence courses.

The next edition of this guide will be entitled The Promotion Accelerator. The "promotion" focus will remain, but it will expand to cover not just promotion points, but all aspects of the Army's promotion system. The new Accelerator will include the original Promotion Point Accelerator text with added appendices covering group correspondence course study and the remaining promotion point areas (APFT, weapons qualification, awards and decorations, etc.), record preparation for the senior enlisted selection boards (DA Forms 2A & 2-1, the official military personnel file [OMPF], the official photograph [DA photo], and the memorandum to the president of the selection board. Further topic areas will include "records-received" confirmation telephone numbers, NCOER tips, and a section for junior enlisted on how to get a headstart on senior NCO promotions.

We continue to solicit readers comments for further promotion topics to cover or provide information on. You can e-mail your comments or suggestions to 101671.1215@compuserve.com.

The only thing this book is lacking is information on the other assorted correspondence course programs the ACCP offers. When is the next edition to this book coming out, Noncom Publication?

5.0 out of 5 stars wow, January 9, 1998

Incredible stuff! The catalog doesn't go into detail on all the problems you can encounter with the ACCP. Need a bulk issue of subcourses? Need to start up a course you quit on months ago? Want to learn how to really knock out a subcourse quickly? It's all in here.
