2.0 out of 5 stars Not for side lifting
The Fastcap Interactive Catalog shows two men lifting a heavy wooden cabinet with one of these HOD-Double handles on each side. I tried this with a metal desk. I put the handle on one side and lifted up, and sometimes one of the suction cups would slip. It would slide upwards. That's when I decided to return it. The HOD-Double handle has smooth rubber pads. FastCap HOD-DOUBLE Handle On Demand

Our deck has a 1.5" thick, 32" square clear acrylic floor panel that is flush with the decking. That panel lets light through to the basement window below it. To remove that heavy panel for periodic cleaning, I bought two of these HODs. Handle On Demand is actually a pretty good name, because they made lifting the 50 lb. acrylic (plastic) utterly simple. The rubber suction pads left no marks, even on something as scratch-prone as plastic.

Each HOD comes in a study cardboard box that can be used to store it when not in use and to keep the tool clean. For the first time, my wife can safely lift the glass table-tops from our living room tables so she can clean underneath.

Things to consider:

- If you're frequently moving things such as big pieces of plate glass, consider buying professional grade vacuum cups, as they typically have greater capacity than this tool. E.g., do a Google Shopping search on: vacuum cup

- This type of vacuum cup tool is designed to lift things with a flat surface. If lifting curved items, such as a car windshield, this isn't the right tool. For examples of the type of tool to use in that case, Google Shopping search on: double swivel vacuum cups

- This is the least expensive lifting tool of this type you're likely to find. I.e., professional versions of this tool have much stronger aluminum handles, but are significantly more costly. To see more expensive lifters, search Amazon on: double vacuum cup

If you don't need a heavy-duty lifter, these sturdy HODs are a terrific bargain and work very well.

I put the handle on one side and lifted up, and sometimes one of the suction cups would slip. It would slide upwards. That's when I decided to return it. The HOD-Double handle has smooth rubber pads. I don't see how they can grip the surface reliably.

I recently bought the Wood Power Grip (aka Powr-Grip) N4000 on Amazon and it's really a professional lifter. It has a large 8" diameter rubber pad with ribs in it, and it really grips well. I was hoping to use the FastCap HOD handle for additional control, when lifting a sliding glass door. It's a lot cheaper than buying another N4000 lifter. I thought I could use the Fastcap on top and the N4000 on the bottom. But it was not to be. I may go ahead and buy a 2nd N4000 now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bathroom assist grab bar, August 19, 2009

The FastCap HOD (Handle on Demand) is identical to a grab bar sold by Drive Medical for less than 20% of the cost. I use it in a fiberglass shower stall for support. It holds extremely well on smooth fiberglass. Make sure you check it for adhesion every time before use. The only advantage of the Drive unit is that it is white.

This handle is surprisingly functional. I bought it as a joke, but I was surprised by how well it adhered to the whiteboard that it was put on.

One think to keep in mind is that it does not handle 200 pounds if it's stuck to the side of something, and lifted vertically: it will lose suction. It might (haven't tested) hold if pulled exactly opposite the suction cups, such as being stuck to the top of something and lifted vertically.

For the price ($10.95 at the time of writing), it is certainly a fun thing to have around, and might come in handy for the next time you need to move an empty file cabinet.

I'm remodeling the master bathroom, including a custom made frameless shower stall. The tempered glass is 1/4" thick and the pieces are large as well as heavy.

Concerned about breaking parts of the heavy and cumbersome glass panels in installation, I started looking for strong suction cup tools to help safely pick up and maneuver the panels.

I got two of these devices, and their quality and capacity exceed my expectations. The price was also great compared to other products.

I needed to remove and replace a large double pane window. These "handles" held strongly and gave a very good grip by thier design.

My wife is redoing 3 bathsrooms and we had to move 3 large mirrors, one over 95" long. With 2 handles we were able to easily and safely move them out and back in when done.

I found this to be a great glass/window holder, far better than I expected. The suction was alot stronger than I thought it would be and although it's plastic, its very well made.

I show the product in the video so you get a sense that it has a man-size grip - not a cheap toy at all.

Bought two of the HOD's to move around double thickness window pains for custom built windows. The handles worked perfectly. For anyone concerned about not being able to carry heavy loads - don't be. I was able to carry a very large, 125 lb pound window pane with these.

You can't beat the value and performance.

They are now a regular part of the game.

I bought FastCaps anticipating needing them when I put my bedroom back together after a rug installation. I have an integrated headboard, mirrors, dresser assembly. The original installer had so much trouble and I anticipated the same. Not the case, I corrected some things he had done wrong and the mirrors went in well without using the FastCaps. They look like they would have handled the job if I needed them.
