Love it/Hate it,
By JSCarey "jscarey" (Melbourne, Florida USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: FastCap PSSR25 25 foot Lefty/Righty Measuring Tape (Tools & Home Improvement)
I love the idea and design of this tape measure. The layout of the scale and the surface to jot down measurements and the thumb operated clip on the back are great ideas. But the construction of the tape leaves out much to be desired; primarily it leaves out quality...even the most basic quality. After light use measuring home and office interiors, two have bitten the big burnt weenie. The first was sitting on the counter during an estimate and suddenly the spring made one last gasping whir and the tape refused to come out and play. It's replacement recently did the opposite; while measuring an office for network cables the 25-foot tape decided around the 22nd foot to simply release the remainder of the tape...completely...spitting the entirety of the 25+ feet of tape onto the floor.
There are several other tapes which feature a similar design of the scale. And, while I will miss the clip on the back, I can glue a sample of matte white formica (purloined from the local cabinet shop) to the side of any case for jotting measurements. A little more--heck, ANY--attention to quality and this would have been a great tool to have in any bag or toolbox.

Easiest scale to read, durablity lacking,

The PSSR tape has the easiest scale to read of any tape I have used. Fractions readable down to 1/16" is a big plus. The lefty/righty feature actually helps cut down on a lot of measurement errors.
The pencil sharpener and writing pad may seem like gimmicks, but they are actually pretty useful. After a few months of using it heavily, the case started to separate on mine. This is disappointing compared to the Stanley and Olympia tapes I have owned.

This review is from: FastCap PSSR25 25 foot Lefty/Righty Measuring Tape (Tools & Home Improvement)
I originally saw this tape measure in a woodworking class. It belonged to the instructor and he has had it for a couple of years. I used it several times and liked it, so I bought one for myself.
I really like the lefty/righty feature. Being able to use view the measurements right side up no matter which way you hold the tape is handy. I like the feel of the tape and the built-in pencil sharpener is a bonus. The body of the tape gives three inches to add, eliminating the need to add a fractional deminsion when working on inside corners. I don't like the small numbers and the small foot increments. They are difficult to read at a distance. I also don't like the margin at the edge of the tape. There is a 1/32" margin on the edge of the tape, the dimentional lines do not extend to the very edge of the tape. I called the company about this and was told that the new design with the margin was the result of customer reviews. This tape will stay in my shop. When I need to replace it, it will be a different brand.
