5.0 out of 5 stars You'd better be ready for this! October 22, 2004
Format:Audio CD
A sure-fire 5-star disk! I have always said, when asked, that the best album released since I was a high school graduate in 1985, is Appetite For Destruction, by Gn'R. However, I have always said that Appetite for Destruction's huge success, kept Faster Pussycat's BRILLIANT debut from achieving it's due.

Both albums were released around the same time. At that time, FP's album was getting much more publicity. But then "Sweet Child o' Mine" took off, and the Pussycats' album got buried.

It is a SOLID 5 star album! It is L.A. sleaze-metal-rock at it's best. You have the classics, in "Don't Change That Song" and "Bathroom Wall", as well as "Cathouse". But the whole Stones-meets-metal sound continues on solid tunes like "No Room For Emotion" and "City Has No Heart".

Frankly there is NO bad song on this whole disk! "Babylon", Shooting You Down" and "Bottle In Front Of Me" are good.

"City has No Heart " and "Ship Rolls In" are strong rockers that make this album much more than a "trash metal" album. It is a classic metal album!

Faster Pussycat had only played six gigs before legendary producer Ric Browde discovered them in Hollywood and inked them to a deal. The band was fresh, hungry and with Browde's rigid hand on both the arrangements and, in a little known fact, songwriting came up with a classic album. Brent Muscat's "No Room For Emotion" is worthy of the Stones "Beggar Banquet" era, "Babylon" - through Browde's adept production magic became the ultimate party song of the 80's. "Cathouse" is hysterical and high energy, as is "Got Your Number Off the Bathroom Wall." The sad thing about the album, other than the unfortunate closing song, is that the band's label president hated Faster Pussycat - and did everything in his power to suppress the album - even going as far as firing the A&R guy who signed them. But the band's unique energy and perseverence triumphed - and allowed them to continue for a few short years...although never with the energy or inspiration of this album.

Faster Pussycat were one of those bands that never actually got the recognition that they deserved and broke up not long after they got a record deal. But, while most of the LA hair bands said they were the sleaziest metal band of all time, Pussycat actually did make some pretty great sleaze rock. This album actually dates better than most late 80's metal band albums at the time(including the highly over-rated Motley Crue LP's relased at the same time).
Pussycat's sound is Downe's vocals which is like Dead Boys era-Stiv Bators mixed with a band that turns out early Areosmith, with tinges of NY Dolls bash 'em ups. Although not always sucessful. There are some definate highlights, check out the Doll's copycats "Cathouse" and "Bathroom Wall", the rants in "Babylon" are great, while the country tinged "No Room For Emotion", the great lyrics on "Ship Rolls In"(I eat my dinner right out of the garbage can, I get my clothes from the lost and found"), and the lament "City has No Heart" show the band had more than parting on their minds and are very good at commenting on other stuff. They would expand this on their later albums.
The production on the album is not great, but its not as bad as you might think. Althgether a very good debuit from a band that should of gained more recognition.

4.0 out of 5 stars Faster Pussycat = Whole lotta fun!! February 24, 2006
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
A fun type music cd that came to us in the later part of the 80's. Taime Downe's vocals were very unique at the time. This cd is just fun barroom rock. Songs of interest include, Don't Change That Song, Bathroom Wall, Babylon, Smash Alley, & Bottle In Front Of Me. Purchase it, you won't regret it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Faster Pussycats the best February 4, 2006
By Joey
Format:Audio CD
see i listen to all 80's hair metal. and i wuz really into Guns N Roses, and L.A. Guns and stuff like that but i wanted something different. something raw and original that may not be all that popular but i wanted a band that i could in a way call it my own u kno. so i herd Don't Change That Song, and thought it wuz soooo good!!!!! then i listen to Bathroom wall, Poison Ivy, House of Pain, after these hits i knew this is what ive been lookin for. then i got this album for Christmas. i jus bout listen to it everyday. see people say o they wer the suckiest band in the 80's but they are wrong but its ok cuz i dont care cuz i knew they wer great and they always will be. jus dont understand y they wernt so popular cuz they had everything Greg Steel, and Brent Muscat were on the way to Slash's path. and the Singer so Original, Axl Rose has one of the best voices but he can sound like a chick and that screech can get a lil anoying in sum songs. but this guy has that voice that sounds more like a man tho. Faster Pussycat will remain in my book forever.

3.0 out of 5 stars A few hits and a few misses
Bathroom wall was probably the best song on this CD. As a freshman CD it was a good effort, but as with most bands they appear to get better as they went along.
