Early dusty fog book,

Dusty is leader (in future) of the floating outfit. This book is a civil war period book, which means before the floating outfit was created. Still a good book.I grew up reading these books. I think they're all out of print now, so you can only get online (kindle) or used paper versions of the books. I've probably read every JT Edson, and have owned/lost several of them. The floating outfit stories are the best. Most JT Edson books are good, but a few are very poor.
