I found a recent review that I thought was excellent by Vicky Collins of www.babylounge.com. It reads,

"If you're like most women, once you decide you want to be pregnant, you want it to happen immediately. If you fall into this category, then this book is for you. The Fastest Way to Get Pregnant Naturally is an essential book for every woman who yearns to earn the title of "mommy."

"This wonderful book is written by OB/GYN and fertility specialist, Dr. Christopher Williams. The first few chapters cover the preconception steps you should take to ensure maximum fertility, and a healthy baby. These chapters include everything from cutting out the obvious, like smoking, alcohol and caffeine, to taking a prenatal vitamin with folic acid, stopping birth control, getting the proper nutrition, and getting to a healthy weight (not too thin or too heavy).

"After you read about what you need to do before trying to conceive, you get to the good stuff...predicting ovulation. Unlike the more traditional ways of detecting ovulation, such as basal body temperature and cervical mucus, this book encourages the use of the ovulation kits that are so readily available in your local drug store (the author explains why using the ovulation kits is an easier and a more reliable methods for detecting ovulation). In addition, the book goes into more detail on how to properly use the kits than I found in the pamphlet included in the kit itself.

"Before reading this book I didn't think ovulation kits (they run about $15-30 per month) were worth the cost. However, when I thought about the fact that I could probably conceive faster using the kits, $15 a month didn't seem like too much!

"An entire chapter is dedicated to what to do in the bedroom to maximize fertility. The usual tips such as optimal positions and frequency are mentioned. In addition, you might be surprised to learn that lubricants like K-Y jelly may kill sperm, and that electric blankets may decrease fertility and increase the rate of miscarriage.

"Other important chapters are dedicated to topics like the man's role in getting pregnant quickly (his nutritional, social, medications, and age do matter), and the age old question of whether you can choose the sex of your baby.

"This comprehensive book is a wonderful way to get a leg up on everything you need to do in order to ensure maximum fertility and be well on your way to the most joyful experience of your life...parenthood."

5.0 out of 5 stars The Fastest Way To Get Pregnant Naturally, November 6, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Fastest Way to Get Pregnant Naturally (Paperback)
When we decided it was time to get pregnant, I wanted to understand what was happening to my body - so I went book hunting. I was impressed that he wrote this book for his wife - an average, healthy woman who just wanted to understand what she needed to do to prepare for a healthy pregnancy. I also appreciated that he was writing for women who did not have any known fertility issues. Most books I looked at were designed for couples have trouble conceiving. This booked reviewed the basic biology, concerns about contraception, exercise, nutrition, common misconceptions and possible fertility concern. I found the chapter on how to monitor my fertility to the most helpful! I've loaned it to two friends who also agree it's the best book on conceiving they have seen.

5.0 out of 5 stars A GODSEND, April 3, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Fastest Way to Get Pregnant Naturally (Paperback)
After months of trying to conceive our second child, a friend sent me this book. Having easily conceived our first child with the use of ovulation predictor kits, my husband and I thought we knew everything we needed to know about conception. I was amazed at how much information this book contains that I had never heard before. For instance, I never knew that a woman's caffiene and alcohol consumption can affect her fertility. That is just one of the numerous ways in which this book was helpful. It also contains great information about the various sex selection techniques that have been used throughout the years. I am happy to report that we are now expecting our second child! Thanks Dr. Williams!

This book was the first I purchased on the subject of fertility, and while it did provide me with information, it also discouraged my hopes of getting pregnant. I came away from the book with the idea that both aspiring parents must be in superb physical condition in order to become pregnant; and if the woman is over 35 the chances are between slim and none. After reading other books and talking to other over-35 women (none of whom were in 'peak' condition) I got a more encouraging view of the situation. Armed with a different perspective I did spend some time rereading sections of Dr. Williams' book and found it less disheatening. This book might be best for someone who has already done some research on fertilty; I would not recommend it as the first read on the subject.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Book!, August 31, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Fastest Way to Get Pregnant Naturally (Paperback)
My husband and I are newly married, so we're not planning on having a baby just yet; however, it has been on my mind a lot lately. I know the basics of getting pregnant, but I bought this book to learn more details and what exactly will be needed on our parts to conceive a healthy baby. I am so glad I did!!! This is an excellent book all the way around. It is very detailed and thorough, but at the same time it is very clear and easy to understand, even if you know only the basics.
I appreciated the fact that the author didn't just say what to do, but he explained the reasoning behind it. For example, after reading the chapter "Predicting Ovulation," I was convinced that ovulation prediciton kits are the way to go, but the author didn't just say that up front. He explained other methods of predicting ovulation and why they may not be as reliable as the kit. Things like that made the book very enjoyable and informative. I also appreciated how he would come right out and say that not enough studies have been done to support a particular idea. The chapter "Sex and Fertility" is a good example of that. He stresses that some of his recomendations are based more on common sense than on scientific research.
I recommend this book to everyone, even if having a baby is still a couple of years away. It is very interesting and awe-inspiring to learn about our wonderful bodies and the miracle of conception.

One caution though: If you read this book before it's time to have a baby, be prepared to want one!!! :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Great place to start!, January 21, 2002

I found this book a very helpful introduction to the world of pre-pregnancy. We have not yet started "trying". I'm just over 30 and wanted a resource to find out as much as I could about what I should be doing now, in the month or so before stopping birth control, to be an informed and healthy pregnant-person-to-be! This book is a perfect place to start. Careful though - it's easy to get discouraged when reading about all the possible reasons you WON'T get pregnant, especially if you're over 30 and sensitive to that fact.

This book gives some good basic information on conception, but frankly Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler was far more informative and useful. If you know the basics, this is not the book for you. If you don't know the basics, there are much better, more comprehensive books out there that will be of more assistance to you. If you have any fertility issues, this book is definitely NOT for you.

3.0 out of 5 stars Worth reading........., July 22, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Fastest Way to Get Pregnant Naturally (Paperback)
I thought some of the information in this book was worth reading. I didn't know you shouldn't use the ovulation predictor kits first thing in the morning, excessive exercise and lubricants can impact fertility, etc. I think this book is for couples who are just starting to try to conceive..not for couples who have already done research on fertility.

2.0 out of 5 stars Where's the fastest way? Mostly a common sense list, March 3, 2003

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Fastest Way to Get Pregnant Naturally (Paperback)
There really is not any new information in this book. It seems to be mostly a list of do's (eat right) and don'ts (no drugs). I was looking for some novel ways to improve chances of conception, and there are really none. I have another book, Trying Again, and the focus is on emotional and physical concerns of couples who have lost a pregnancy or baby, and that book also has all the same facts on how to conceive as this one. The only thing I really like about this book is that is has a chart listing the quantity of caffeine in various beverages and foods. Overall, I think the title of this book is misleading. There is nothing in this book that I can add to what we have already been doing and what we have already learned from other free sources (like patient handouts at the doctor's office - it is all there). Considering his big tip is to use an ovulation predictor kit, you should probably save the money.
