About the Author
Derek Prince (1915-2003) was born in India of British parents. Educated as a scholar of Greek and Latin at Eton College and Cambridge University, England, he held a Fellowship in Ancient and Modern Philosophy at King's College. He also studied several modern languages, including Hebrew and Aramaic, at Cambridge University and the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.While serving with the British army in World War II, he began to study the Bible and experienced a life-changing encounter with Jesus Christ. Out of this encounter he formed two conclusions: first, that Jesus Christ is alive; second, that the Bible is a true, relevant, up-to-date book. These conclusions altered the whole course of his life, which he then devoted to studying and teaching the Bible.Derek's main gift of explaining the Bible and its teaching in a clear and simple way has helped build a foundation of faith in millions of lives. His non-denominational, non-sectarian approach has made his teaching equally relevant and helpful to people from all racial and religious backgrounds.He is the author of over 50 books, 500 audio and 160 video teaching cassettes, many of which have been translated and published in more than 60 languages. His daily radio broadcast, Keys to Successful Living, reaches more than half the world and includes translations into Arabic, Chinese, Croatian, Malagasy, Mongolian, Russian, Samoan, Spanish and Tongan. His daily radio program continues to touch lives around the world.

The shortest explanation of fasting I've ever read. REALLY good examples from scripture. I highly recommend.
If you are looking for something shorter and references to lots of scripture on fasting, Derek Prince's book is the way to go! You could easily read this booklet in an hour. (If you want a really meaty discussion with lots of personal examples, check out Mahesh Chavda's book "The Hidden Power of Prayer and Fasting" If you are seeking to draw closer to Christ's heart, I highly recommend reading Bob Sorge's "Secrets of the Secret Place") Fasting is incredible. I am so shocked at how often fasting is discussed in scripture. It is like adding a thermonuclear warhead to your prayers. It humbles you and draws you closer to Christ's heart!

Derek shows that God requires that we HUMBLE ourselves before Him; God also makes it clear that He gives grace or blessings (unmerited favor) to the HUMBLE. Can you use a blessing from the Lord?
If you wanted to cultivate true humility but did not know how, this is the book for you. Succinct, Scripture-based, practical and powerful, this book is fast-paced and very brief. It has given me the clearest and most convincing reason to fast.
