Some of the Routines that Made Cosby Great,
By
This review is from: Fat Albert (Audio CD)
This CD contains several of the Fat Albert routines that ilustrate the comic genius of Bill Cosby. They all revolve his youth in Philadelphia and the boys he grew up with. All men should have hilarious stories of their antics as youth to draw upon for hilarious memories. Cosby's genius is in his ability to make thos stories funny to others. He does a great job.
Bill Cosby is unusual in this day and age for his ability to generate tremendous laughs without resorting to profanity. He makes the extra effort to do so and still be funny. The effort pays off. Get this recording but be prepared to laugh uproarisouly at the foibles of youth.

This is an album by Bill Cosby from 1973. Very funny stuff, but "Fat Albert Got a Hernia" is a recycled and edited track from his When I Was a Kid album that was originally called "My Hernia". Still, it's Bill Cosby, who is always funny.

Hey, Hey, Hey,
This review is from: Fat Albert (Audio CD)
Fat Albert fans can rejoice that this is still in release. It has 7 good stories from Bill Cosby's on stage comedy, 3 of which are about Fat Albert and the gang. This album came out one year after the first episode of the ground breaking cartoons series that was the brain child of Bill Cosby.

A Hodge-Podge of Comedy Genius.,
By
This review is from: Fat Albert (Audio CD)
This FAT ALBERT album was originally released after the success of Bill Cosby's animated series starring the titled gentle giant. Universal new they had a goldmine with Fat Albert and attempted to cash in on it as much as possible. However, Bill Cosby is Bill Cosby and always comes out on top. Instead of making an entire album of Fat Albert sketches, Cosby compiled one that included just 3 stories about Fat Albert and 4 others that were totally unrelated.
I think the funniest sketch on this album is track #1, "Fat Albert's Car." Cosby tells how everyone wanted to ride in Fat Albert's car because Albert had modified it to run on an airplane engine. The laughs continue as Cosby tells about how he used Fat Albert's car to take his driver's license test. The sketch that I found almost as funny as "Fat Albert's Car" is track #5, "My Dad's Car". I don't know what it is with Cosby, but almost every car story I have ever heard him tell has been hilarious. In this story, Cosby relays the time his Dad yelled at him for not putting gas in the car. FAT ALBERT might not be Cosby's funniest album, but it does offer a glimpse into his comical genius. My only complaint about the album is that with just 7 sketches, it's far too short. Of course one has to remember this was originally released on vinyl and vinyl albums hardly ever were as long as the cds we now have. A funny ablum from one of the true greats of modern comedy.

Bill Cosby usually has hillarious and especially clean material. This is no exception. It's great for both parents and children.

A Hilarious Album of Great, Great Humor,

When I first received my own tape player and headphones as a gift, this was one of the first cassettes that I got. It is, in a word, hilarious. Laugh-out-loud hilarious. Here, Cosby delivers a brilliant series of comedy sketches. My favorites include:
1. Fat Albert's Car: In which Fat Albert, Cosby's childhood friend, modifies an old hot rod, with disastrous results. 2. My Dad's Car: In which Cosby is given a tough-love lesson in car care. 3. Fernet Branca: In which Cosby relates an absolutely priceless comedy of errors ordering in an Italian restaurant (in Italy!) and the disastrous consequences. This is family-friendly comedy at its best with only a couple of bits of mild language; my entire family loves to listen to this album. Recommended!

Originally released in 1973 a lot of the sketches on this Cosby album, or variations thereof, are available on other releases over the years. And there are a couple of best of albums that cover his career very well. Having said that the real fan of Cos should try to gradually collect his entire catalogue especially given the prices for which they can be obtained.
This album, like When I Was A Kid largely revolves around tales of a simpler time - childhood. Cosby uses a range of well worn characters here to weave ridiculous and very amusing vignettes that are perfect for lazy day listening. Or for when your wife has you painting the house or something similar.... As to my favourite sketches here? Well having been a revhead in my youth I love Fat Alberts Car and My Dad's car. But perhaps my absolute fave here is Fat Albert Plays Dead, basically a tale of trying to get one up on your father which is certainly not an easy thing to do in the world of corporal punishment as detailed by Cosby in so many of his sketches where fathers make an appearance. A light and breezy listen.

I was really excited about this soundtrack, but still haven't been able to listen to it, since I can't get the Amazon MP3 software to work. I emailed customer support and got no answer. Too bad.
