My favorite children's folktale!,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Fat Cat: A Danish Folktale (Paperback)
My Dad still talks and teases me about this (somewhat morbid, but funny) story of a very hungry kitty cat. It ranks as the the most requested bedtime story of my childhood. I would very much love to see this book back in print so that I may read it to my children.

Great Fun.,

This review is from: The Fat Cat: A Danish Folktale (Paperback)
This story is an old Danish folktale as told by Jack Kent and like most folktales it is a little morbid, but contains a moral. The fat cat is a greedy little feline who is supposed to watch over her owner's gruel, but instead eats the whole thing "and the pot." But the cat isn't satisfied and continues eating until she becomes a somewhat humorous monster. The children at the day care I worked at loved this story and I love reading it.

The Fat Cat by Jack Kent,

The Fat Cat is a fabulouus picture book. Children love it and it's easy and fun to act out with them. It's a Danish folktale, very easy to tell but the illustrations add a lot to the tale. I hope a publisher will bring it back into print. It was orginially published by Parents Magazine Press

Fun book,
This review is from: The Fat Cat: A Danish Folktale (Paperback)
I remember this book from my childhood. It drove my mother crazy to list all the items the fat cat ate. The names were very silly like Skolinkinlot & Skohotintot. I was just searching for this book to read to my boys and I seem to have lost it. Such a bummer. I hope I find it soon. If not, I'll have to order a new one! This book is too funny not to share.

I have been looking for this book for several years with no luck. I have a one year old daughter and I want to be able to share this book with her but I cannot find the copy I had as a child. I wish they would put it back in print!

I too, have been searching for this book and found a copy at my local Library. My younger brother had this entire book memorized by the time he entered Kindergarten. Seeing it reminded me of my childhood and it was a special treat to be able to share it with my own children.

A classic folk tale,

I am a school librarian and look forward to reading this to my kindergarten students each year. I enjoyed it greatly as a child and love to share it with a new generation. I read to them from the same tattered paperback that I bought from Scholastic book club as a second grader.

This wonderful story should be brought back for kids today,

This story is incredibly funny, both in its droll pictures and the increasingly long, counting-style list of what the Fat Cat has eaten. All of us in my family who grew up with Kent's Fat Cat could recite lines from the book, it was such a favorite. It truly is a shame that this wonderful, comic tale is out of print -- it's the kind of timeless children's book that appeals to children of ALL ages, and it's as fun to read aloud to children as it is for the kids to hear.

Great for preschoolers,
By Bella "speech therapist" (matthews, NC USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Fat Cat: A Danish Folktale (Paperback)
This story has repetitive text that preschoolers adore. The predictability allows kids to finish the sentences for their parents as they read them the story. The characters have funny names (Danish), but the ending can be disturbing for sensitive children. A great story for learning the short a sound or final t sound.
