5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent pan for super apple pie
I used this pan to make an apple pie with Alton Brown's Super Apple Pie recipe. With a little extra baking time, it came out great! Being able to remove the outer ring allowed me to cut beautiful, large slices of pie. I used a bread knife to cut my pie which did leave marks on the bottom disk of the pan. I realize the pan is only aluminum so I'm going to try to slide...

1.0 out of 5 stars Dangerously sharp edges on the one I received
The first (and only) time I used this pan I cut my hand on a sharp edge. Amazon allowed me to return it at their expense and issued me a credit. Since there are several positive reviews, I can only assume that the pan I received had a manufacturing defect. But apparently I am not the only one; I noticed another review on a different Fat Daddio's pan (the 9.5 & 11"...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent pan for super apple pie, July 9, 2009

I used this pan to make an apple pie with Alton Brown's Super Apple Pie recipe. With a little extra baking time, it came out great! Being able to remove the outer ring allowed me to cut beautiful, large slices of pie. I used a bread knife to cut my pie which did leave marks on the bottom disk of the pan. I realize the pan is only aluminum so I'm going to try to slide the pie onto a cutting board before slicing next time. However, a few knife marks certainly won't hurt a thing, so not a big deal.

I have a smaller Fat Daddio tart pan and it's just as great as this one.
This is not a super heavy-duty pan, but with regular use and care, it does a great job. I've read that some people feel these pans are cheap and flimsy. If you don't abuse them and use them as intended they hold up just fine.

I've been wanting to try a tart pan with a removable bottom but am always leery of buying online...sight unseen. I always check the reviews but still wind up going with that "gut feel". Though I had never heard of this brand before, I was very pleased when it arrived. It was sturdy enough for my use and easy to clean. The bottom came out just as expected. I'd certainly buy this brand again without hesitation. The one review I saw that I would probably agree with is that the top lip could be a little thicker so you can flatten the dough for your edge. Otherwise, it worked like a champ. Price and function...that's all I ever ask for. Well done, FD.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good, well-made product, November 19, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
There's nothing exciting about a tart pan but this is a good one. To those who have expressed reservations about its sturdiness, Fat Daddios products are used in many commercial kitchens where they go on doing the job for years and years.

Potential buyers should be aware that these pans are a little deeper than most. Because it can be annoying to try to build a crust only part way up the sides of the pan, I have another, shallower one for products such as lemon curd tarts. For a fruit tart or galette, however, this one is fine. The nicely browned sides of a tart look a lot nicer than a tin or glass pie pan.

Have fun and good eating!

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes for a cool pie presentation., September 25, 2009

I bought this pan to try Alton Brown's Super Apple Pie recipe. When the pie is ready it looks fantastic when you take the ring of it and all you see is golden crust. I think It would work better for custard style pies than fruit because it the filling is not set it runs out. I will probably buy a couple more of these with the holidays coming up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Practically perfect!, November 29, 2010

This review is from: Fat Daddio's Fluted Tart Pan 10 Inch x 2 Inch Removable Bottom (Kitchen)
I saw Alton Brown make an apple pie in a fluted tart pan and it came out really pretty, so I decided to give it a try. Most of the time, with a fruit pie, the first piece looks crappy because you struggle to get it out - not with this pan! I wanted a deeper pan than Alton used and was thrilled to find this 2" deep tart pan. I tried it for Thanksgiving and the pie came out very easily from the outer tart pan side and looked beautiful even when sliced! Because the pan is so deep, I didn't have to pile the apples way high and have them shrink and leave "empty" pie crust on top. I just layered the apples to the edge of the pan and laid the top crust right on top and pinched off the excess dough. It's so easy to get the crust edge perfect with this pan and it cleans very easily. I would recommend this reasonably priced pan for any cook who likes to make fruit pies. I wish I had seen this years ago!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fluted Tart Pan with Removable Bottom, December 21, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This tart pan worked really great. It held the dough very well and my tart crust came out almost perfect. The only reason I gave this item 4 out of 5 stars was because it was too hard to get the crust out of the pan. Even though the pan has a removable bottom, the bottom is pretty thin and is hard to push out with the crust. I ended up chipping my crust a little. Otherwise, the tart pan is great and does the job.

The tart pan is an excellent pan. The cost was right and the shipping was very good. I have bought another one since this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fat Daddio's Fluted Tart Pan 8x2 inch w/Removable Bottom, January 19, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
When the product arrived it was deeper than I was picturing, but I realized it fit the specs just right, I was just picturing an 8x1 inch pan in my head. I didn't have any problems with seepage through the bottom. In fact the only thing about this pan that I didn't really care for was the deep sides. If I had realized I was picturing it wrong, I would have searched for a shallower pan, but, all in all, I think it was worth the money and am I satisfied.
